  1. Tax collectors and the "scientists" that get paid by the tax collectors.

  2. Hydrogen fuel cell development might be a good field to enter.  I would stay away from the corn-ethanol industry as it is not long for this world since being exposed as a greater polluter than regular gasoline.

Edit 1:  Corn ethanol ABSOLUTELY does pollute more than regular gasoline!  Anyone who says otherwise is intentionally trying to mis-inform people or is involved in the ethanol industry or is too lazy to research the truth.

  3. Right at the moment, in my area at least, wind energy is HUGE.  There are multiple projects under development that are pouring millions of dollars into the local economy and providing employment of all sorts, both within the field and outside of it.  Ethanol probably runs a close second, and as alternative biomass products are developed there will be further opportunities in that source of energy.

What everyone is telling me is that in the coming decades mechanical engineering is going to be one of the best fields to be in, so that would be my guess.

EDIT:  Ethanol is NOT a greater polluter than regular gasoline, that is a myth.  Corn isn't the best or most efficient source for ethanol, but the anti-ethanol pundits conveniently overlook the fact that the byproduct of its production is still used as feed for livestock production, which improves the net efficiency of producing it.  We also neglect to consider that the ethanol infrastructure is not designed solely for the use of corn in ethanol production, that research is continuing in the use of other biomass that, once it comes on line, will further increase the viability of ethanol, although not as our sole source of fuel.  Finally, when looking at ethanol vs. oil, let's be fair enough to include ALL the costs of 'production' and consider the cost of military action to maintain our supplies of oil.  No one is really mentioning THAT much, are they?  Regardless, the question was what fields and occupations will get the biggest part(s) of the pie.  Ethanol is one of the up and comers right now.

  5. The global warming movement will evolve into something more scientific like energy efficiency and long term sustainability movement.  This will be a growth industy for the future.

In my experience, people who can assess buildings for compliance with green building guidlines are very well paid for their education and experience.

  6. The politician are talking about 50% cuts... Do U think U could live with 50% less energy.Just part of this would put many people out of work and into a deep depression. If this happens it will not be good for anyone.. Even the oil producers will be in trouble...
