  1. - buy energy efficient products when possible

    - drive less if possible

    - use more energy efficient vehicles when possible

  2. Get rid of your car, your tv, and anything else that is electric and go to gas lanterns for your house.  Use only bike or public transportation also will help.

  3. GE makes these new lightbulbs that use less energy. They are in a spiral shape, same wattage as normal bulbs so they fit into normal sockets.

Turn your thermostat to around 68 degrees in winter, and 75 in the summer (if you can accomodate yourself).

If you garden, get a large container (plastic drums work well), everyday, dump your leftover food into it (no meats!). You can use this as compost for fertilizer.

If you live near the NY border, save all your soda cans/bottles. They can be taken and turned in for money ($0.05 each one!). Giant, and other stores have deposits. They are like back-wards soda machines, you put the bottle in, and get nickels out!

Expensive, but something to think about in the future: When putting the plumbing in your home  (usually when building a new home), have the shower, sink, and dishwasher lines run out to the yard. You can buy piping that has holes in it. So the end of the line from your plumbing will have holes in it (this would be under your lawn). The water from your house will end up watering your lawn. You can Google it for exact directions. Just don't connect the toilet water!!! It's disgusting and illegal :-)

Collect rain water in drums/buckets to water lawn, garden.

If you hold a yard sale, the last hour of the last day, put everything out for FREE. This way it will get rid of your stuff so you don't junk it in the trash. Most of the stuff we throw out goes into land fills---ew!

DON'T water your lawn! Some people are so insistant on having perfectly manicured, green lawns. 70% of the water used in the world goes to gardening (including watering the grass).

If you've watched the Al Gore movie, most of it was blown out-of-proportion to scare people. Unfortunately, the smart people of this world awarded him with a Nobel Peace Prize (the same award that was given to Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Frank Kellogg, Lloyd Boyd-Orr, MLK Jr., Mother Teresa, Nelson Mendela, and several other people who actually made a difference in this world).

I hope that you're interested in Going Green because you care about the future of your great-grandkids, and not because you were scared by a movie, narrated by a presidential loser!

  4. Absolutely nothing. Global warming is a complete and utter fraud. Man can't predict the weather and now thinks it can affect it; how silly and pathetic. Al Gore is a complete fraud, his movie is a fantasy and it has so many errors and pure lies that it should  be called a fiction film and not a documentary.

It is all political to destroy our way of life. completely anti-American created by people who hate this country and our way of life

  5. Join a terrorist organization like Earth Liberation Front or the Sierra Club and burn down big houses and SUV dealerships.

  6. try not to use your car at all

    might help

    [unless you need it desperatley]

  7. Enjoy life!

GW is a big scam manipulated by governments to create fear and panic in societies, create taxes, and to some people (Al Gore) and entities (media cartels, pharmaceuticals, scientists, etc) get rich and famous.

    My 2 cents.

  8. give away your unneeded things on Freecycle.  Before purchasing anything, think "do I really need this, or will I at least get a lot of enjoyment out of it?"  Plant a garden or purchase from farmers' markets so your produce won't have to travel far, wasting fuel.  Time your heat and air conditioning so it won't be on when you're not home, but will kick in about a half hour before you get home so you won't roast or freeze.

  9. Get as informed on Global Warming as possible.  Read a very informing article in the March 31, 2008 issue of the New American Magazine.  I strongly advise reading this article.  I have ordered this magazine from my local library if you can not find it elsewhere.

  10. There are lots of things, but here are a few you might not have even thought of. You can reduce your impact on non renewable resources and globalwarming at the same time by choosing how you buy some of your food. Buy organic when you can afford to, certified organic, that way you reduce the amount of chemicals thrown in the earth by eliminating that amount that would have been put there for you to consume your fruits and veggies.  Buy your produce locally; instead of a grocery store, go to the farmers market downtown Hickory, or find roadside stands or convenience stores that offer vegetables locally grown. All of our food gets shipped to stores, and the trucks that bring them emit harmful fumes and gases that speed up global warming, and that also use petrolium to run, just like our own vehicles. A mango trucked in from California emitting black smoke and noxious gases the whole way can taste sweet, yes, but a peach from a north carolina orchard that very morning is heavenly. (Somewhat paraphrased from Worldchanging, a users guide to the 21st century which I recommend you read.) It may not seem like much, but if enough people follow that path, we can change the way our foodstuffs comes to us and make a deep impact on globalwarming. Check out renewableresource.com and for 5 dollars a month, or 15 for a family, you can make your power company take the power it takes to run your home from wind turbines by purchasing wind credits, meaning the power it took for your house that month has to be put back into the grid by wind power. If enough people do that, it would change to where no one would have to pay extra to run their house on wind credits because the demand for wind power plants would be presented enough to build them and guess what? We would actually pay a good 40% less a month for electricity. Everyone would. Don't buy new fancy gadjets from china and japan with new unnessecary bells and whistles. Just because the new cell phone from your provider has bluetooth or an mp3 player doesn't mean that you absulutely have to have it. What you've never had, you will never miss. All the new fangled gadjets have to be shipped on ocean liners that run on a staggering amount of petrolium oil, which we all know we will run out anyway. Keep your old phone. Make good choices with new electronics, and recycle or "freecycle" old ones. Im like you, Im not rich. If I were, I would have an electric car ran on stored wind power, solar panels on my roof, and contribute to great charitable causes. But in my small way, by doing what you are plus making conscious choices about what I spend money on, I am doing a smallpart. And lots of small parts make a pretty big machine don't they?

  11. I can tell you something that I do now.

Instead of drying my clothes I hang them out to dry.

    Thanks

  12. Live like the Amish

  13. Eat less red meat.....or no meat at all.

  14. try not to idle for any amount of time. It is a proved fact that if you idle for more that 10 seconds, You use more fuel that if you just turned the car on then off. Use eco-friendly soap pesticides. Encourage others to be green. And when you are doing that, Say who cares if global warming is not real! Do you want to be breathing exhaust filled air?!? You can say this phrase in a more nice way that I did. Hope I helped! :-D

  15. Your really into global warming? That is an odd statement.

Do what I do, celebrate every day temperatures are balmy and no ice age.

Try having a "Just Say No to Glaciers Covering the Earth Party".

  16. There are 2 things, one in house other out.  1/ laundry Soak your clothes overnight, so you can wash doble ammount on each load and the chemicals in the detergent gets used fully cleaning dirt and not the fish or micro organisms, - an hang dry, instead of using the drier. You can do that over night or while at school or work.  If air to humid, a finishing touch in the drier will do.

2./ organic compost.  try making a compost hole outside or in a pot, with worms, so you put your organic leftovers of the day, cover with 1 inch of dirt every day. Is not only planting trees and plants, is also reincorporating what has taken off the ground.

  17. Avoid  using a car

where it is possible and safe consider these alternatives

    1. walking

    2. bicycling

    3. public transport

    4. telephone calls or email maybe used to avoid some journeys.

    At home

    1. Insulate your roof

    2. cavity wall insulation

    3. Turn your heating down and wear a sweater

    4. try opening windows instead of air conditioning

    Plant trees
