Question:

Global Warming is unstoppable, worrying about carbon emissions is pointless?

Yes i understand that everyone is cutting carbon emissions to save the planet and how global warming works, but is it actually as big as a problem as people are making out? Sure carbon in the atmosphere will most likely influence the planet and maybe bring global warming to us a bit sooner, however we are orbiting the star with the most potential to cause lethal damage (the sun).

In our history we have had 4 main glaciations and periods of extreme climate change, back to when man lived in a cave and grunted, and predating that to the dinosaurs and so on. I have a feeling this wasn't caused by too many 4x4s being used in towns and cities!

Solar activity can have a lethal effect, and as shown in the past, it can have massive influences on our climate, so if global warming is going to happen, which i largely suspect it will, it will not be down to simple carbon emissions, but the unpreventable power of the sun. Carbon emissions will have an effect, just not as big as you think!

=)

  1. No, it's not.

The Sun has been remarkably constant for hundreds of years.  It's actually decreasing a bit these days.

Yes, we've had natural changes before.  But the data clearly shows this one isn't natural.  Slowing it down by reducing carbon emissions will save us a huge amount of money (and some lives) by reducing our need to cope with coastal flooding and damage to agriculture.

There are reasons most all scientists say we should do this.

  2. global warming even we cut carbon emmisions global warming will win becouse of greenhouse gases try shutdown all the plants that produce waste try dont use cars try not to cut trees try not to use much energy in home and we can stop the global warming

  3. We're all going to die someday!   You might as well go jump off a building now since its going to happen anyway.

  4. our carbo emmisions r speeding the global warming up!!!!

  5. global warming is a hoax brought on to you by the environazis and you fell for it. prepare to open your wallet to the likes of gore and the un.

  6. I agree, we would be much better served if all of the resources currently being spent on name calling, hand wringing, finger pointing and futile attempts to stop global warming were turned toward developing and implementing plans to deal with the inevitable consequences.

  7. During the 1980s, this very same set of arguments was used regarding the depletion of ozone. We had opened a hole in the radiation shielding ozone layer of our planet using CFCs. It was growing fast. At first, they said it was not real. Then, they said it was natural, not man-made. Finally they said it was too late anyway.

We ignored them and passed laws. A global effort stopped and finally reversed the effects.

As of 2007, the hole was officially declared closed. It wasn't instant; it wasn't easy; it wasn't cheap. Our survival depended on it.

Just because you are going to die anyway doesn't mean you have to smoke a pack a day. If we do not break our oil habit, we are doomed.

  8. We are damaging our environment in many more ways than just global warming. Regardless of our part in rising global temperatures and whether the change is inevitable, it is certainly necessary for our survival that we find a way to incorporate the well-being of the natural environment into the free market. Carbon trading is part of this, conscientious consumers are another.
