  1. I believe that it's happening, but don't feel that human consumption is the total cause.  Sure, we contribute to it, but I believe some climate changes are cyclical, and looking back in time- even thousands of years, it can be shown this is true.

Up until fairly recently it was being predicted that another ice age was coming, so I don't think scientists even know with certainty what the story is.  So  yes, we need to make changes in our fuel consumption and find "greener" solutions to every day chores, but that's only part of the equation.

  2. I don't do anything to prevent global warming because I am too busy to worry about it. Anyway environmental problems wont happen for millions of years anyway so don't worry.

  3. It's not a question of belief.  This is science and what counts is the data.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)

Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command

Here are two summaries of the mountain of data that convinced Admiral Truly, short and long.

    It's (mostly) not the sun:

    http://www.stopglobalwarming.org/sgw_act...

And the first graph aboves shows that the sun is responsible for about 10% of it.  When someone says it's the sun they're saying that thousands of climatologists are stupid and don't look at the solar data.  That's ridiculous.

Science is quite good about exposing bad science or hoaxes:

    http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/ATG/polywater...

There's a large number of people who agree that it is real and mostly caused by us, who are not liberals, environmentalists, stupid, or conceivably part of a "conspiracy".  Just three examples of many:

"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."

    Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

    Senator John McCain, Republican, Arizona

“DuPont believes that action is warranted, not further debate."

Charles O. Holliday, Jr., CEO, DuPont

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

    http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/a...

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/fu...

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics.  Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

    Jerry Mahlman, NOAA

    Good websites for more info:

    http://profend.com/global-warming/

    http://www.realclimate.org

    "climate science from climate scientists"

    EDIT:

The "swindle" movie is wrong.  It is simply a political statement which distorts science.

"The science might be bunkum, the research discredited. But all that counts for Channel 4 is generating controversy."

    http://environment.guardian.co.uk/climat...

Gore's movie may be a little over dramatic, but it has the basic science right.  This movie does not.

Channel 4 itself undercuts the movie in a funny way.  If you go to their website on the movie you find links to real global warming information.  They also say "Confused now?  Ask the Expert."  The link for questions goes to a respected mainstream scientist who

supports (mostly) human responsibility for global warming.

  4. There are two things that make me believe its just a big fundraiser for the U.N. (1) The ice age ended somehow, the only way the ice age could have ended is a rise in temperatures. There werent any jets or SUVs a million years ago to cause it.(2)The temperature om Mars and Jupiter are rising at the same TINY rate as earths temperature is and there are NO people there to cause it. This whole nonsense is about BUYING/SELLING ENVIRONMENTAL CREDITS...and that WHOLE program is administered by the U.N. Does ANYBODY trust the U.N. ????????

  5. Global warming is a hoax. They just did a special on the news about how the ozone layer will replenish itself over time. Also, I guess years ago, they were worried about the earth getting too cold. I live in Michigan and believe me, everyone here is for the so called "global warming."

  6. Well I guess if the CEO of Walmart says it real, then it must be real, NOT.

  7. global warming is "an untruthful convenience" for the democrat party.

    join the heresy

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...

  8. I believe in Global Warming and Cooling - hence Ice ages, and Tropical Ages, Dino's etc -

Humans effecting that pattern no -

First Mars Polar Ice Caps melting -

    Martian SUV's?

    Martian Deforestation?

    Martian Cow Flatulence?

Second - How did the Ice Age End? How did It start?

How about the greenhouse Gasses in the Dino age?

The Earth Warmed between 1919 and 1940 and then cooled down until 1976.

BTW the sea levels have been increasing since the start of the melting of the Ice Age.

This winter in 3 weeks NY got 11 Feet of snow and the first 3 weeks of April the Midwest was below or at freezing.

in 982 AD Greenland was farmable. When did it freeze?

Greenland has been loosing at the rate of 0.4% each 100 years. But that has reversed in late 2005. If the ice is growing back - how can that happen in the Warming?

How do we answer the little ice age between 13 century ad - 19 century ad?

What started the warming in the 1800's if the greenhouse gasses were much less then today.

Science is an exact thing -

Remember Science said the earth was flat

Remember Science said that the earth was the center of the universe

Remember that science in 1975 said that we would be in a deep freeze/ice age by 2000.

Could we have the cause and effect mixed up. Could the greenhouse gasses be the effect of some outside cause (the sun?)?

  9. Climate change is real

how much we are responsible is debateable

are we influencing the health of the planet in a bad way ---YES.

Can we do something about it YES

will it make a great difference ---NO

politicians ,have downplayed the facts of Climate change because solutions are expensive and means change and change effects many peoples incomes, and upsets profit margins,so most of the world is kept in the dark of the real things that are going on.for political and economic reasons

Global warming is a very complex collection of many effects

this text only covers some aspects of global warming mainly man made desertification

industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities ,is another story

there are natural cycles in the planets life

but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms

in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result

in china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert,

,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year

and all of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were very few desserts.

collectively this planet is drying up because of bad farming practices like, over grazing and fertilizers,

each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,

and there are less and less farmers to do it..

and there are 70 million more peole every year that have to eat and drink and wash

who are overpumping deep carbon aquifiers

who are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,

because of bad farming practises ,such as using fertilizers and heavy machinary or over grazing

    RISING SEAS

The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.

this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/natur...

if forrest are being exchanged for ashalt, concrete and desserts

what is gonna keep this planet habitable for us

Climate change is not reversable, but we can do many things to make a difference but this would mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.

    SOLUTIONS

if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

    the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

    education on environmental awareness

education on family planning to curb over´populaion

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

and improve economis situations for people who live in areas where deforestation has become their only alternative for survival ,which is a short term solution that has long term negative effects

try to replace farming with eco tourism,

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

    recicling wastes,limit water use

here are a 100 more ways

    http://www.eco-gaia.net/forum-pt/index.p...

Lester E Brown is the director and founder of the global institute of Environment in the United states .he has compiled a report based on all the satalite information available from NASA,and all the information that has

come from Universities and American embassies WORLD WIDE ,

his little book--a planet under stress , Plan B has been trans lated into many languages and won the best book award in 2003

  10. My view is that it is a valid scientific theory, and must be treated as such. Since the science very strongly indicates that current climate change is caused or very strongly influenced by humans I have no choice but to accept it.

Politicians have no business whatsoever in deciding whether the theory is valid or not. And I find it appalling that so many of them think they possess the understanding to actually accuse the science of being fraudulent! Politicians are supposed to use the information provided by scientists to make policy, not decide what does and does not constitute good science.

  11. in the early 70s scientist were saying that the world is heading into a ice age so. who knows?

i think politicians are using it to help them get elected

  12. I belive that global warming is real but is a natural occurring event that has been happening for millions of years (ice ages).  The media is hyping up the subject and alarmist like Al Gore are only trying to make themselves look good. Then figure in the money factor..........

  13. Do I beleive it's real - Yes.

Why - 23 years of studying it.

Good or bad thing - There's advantages and disadvantages, the bad points far outweigh the good points.

Should or shoun't be happening - Naturally it should be happening as it always has done, shouldn't be happening at the rate it is which is many times faster than anything that's ever before occured.

Who's fault - Partly natural, largely manmade.

Steps to prevent it - Large tree planting schemes in Africa.

What can you do to prevent it - see my website, Bob has included a link in his above answer.
