  1. its pretty much a fact now that its real and thats it getting worse. why would they try and scare us with global warming? and scare us from what? ourselves? but going green isnt the answer. it might help a tiny tiny bit but in order to stop it we'd have to pretty much stop driving cars and working in factories and making products we use and ****. so we're screwed and when we're on the brink of exstinction we'll wake up. but like always it'll be too d**n late.

  2. Global warming is real. I live in Ecuador and I felt as year to year, the heat increase. Floods,  andean ice thawing, are signs of the future.

  3. I agree Global Warming is a load of rubbish it is a phase the world goes through

Think about it most of you people go by what you read and do not consider the facts  Polar ice caps are melting yes because of the phase the earth is gonig through eventually i don't know the span of it but it will go bk and it will be colder. Global Warming is just a way for the government to get more tax out of us for Carbon emissions etc

The government want everyone to believe it so we change to renewable energy sources faster therefore not depending on other countries for oil etc and they get a profit out of us

  4. Could happen?  We're 100+ years into it already:

There is a lot of science behind our understanding of global warming:

    http://norvig.com/oreskes.html

The consensus was quantified in a Science study by Prof. Naomi Oreskes (Dec. 2004) in which she surveyed 928 scientific journal articles that matched the search [global climate change] at the ISI Web of Science. Of these, according to Oreskes, 75% agreed with the consensus view (either implicitly or explicitly), 25% took no stand one way or the other, and none rejected the consensus.

There's a long history behind that science as well:

Scientists have pointed out that due to drought we could lose access to water and power from Hoover Dam in the 6-13 year timeframe, the Pentagon has planned a scenario for food riots and global anarchy in as little as 16 years, the glacial source of the Ganges could be gone in about 30 years, and given accelerated melting observed since the last IPCC report was written, sea level rise could be several meters by 2100 (not the 40cm predicted in the IPCC report).

Maybe you have more information than all these scientists.

  5. I believe it's possible.

  6. i'm pretty pessismistic about the whole thing... it looks like it is warming, whether because of us or because of ice age style natural processes... so I really havent been changing much in the way of plastic bags...

  7. global warming is happening right now...it is very real..the ice is really melting and it is getting hotter..they is going to be a major global shift and it is not as far away as everyone thinks it is.everyone thinks that going green is going to change everything, but the human race has already done extreme ireversable damage to there planet. we can all do our part to help a little but the earth is already going through some very extreme changes.

  8. have you been living under a rock?!?! GLOBAL WARMING IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW!! and WE are the cause

  9. Global warming is true. how much are we contributing to it remains a question. Careful with looking at all those graphs, many of them don't show the whole picture, and can be misleading. The planet naturally heats up and cools down, it's what its been doing since it formed. During global warming some parts of the worlds' tempuratures will dramitically increase, and other parts will decrease. The earth is never at equillibrium and is constantly changing to try and reach this equilibrium, but too many factors (natural and un-natural) are preventing it. Please do not get your facts from politicians or movies, such as "The Day After Tommorow". Listen to a geologist (like me), or better yet a published geologist. You can find articles online and in mags such as geosciencesworld.gov, or Scientic American. Look at it this way. The world was never built to sustain life for very long, it shifts dramatically too frequently. If you think that the extinction of the dino's is the largest extinction to have occurred your wrong. There has been 4-5 mass extinctions in the past that don't include the dino's. So how exactly are we going to stop global warming? This is an event that has been taking place for billions of years. That would be like stopping the world from spinning. It is way beyond us. So perhaps we need to find different ways of adapting to the ever changing environment of our plant. Genetic manipulation? Now if your argument is simply pollution, well ya, we need to cut that c**p out. I am more worried about breathing in all this c**p then global warming.

  10. It's a hoax and a scam to get us to become slaves to people like Al Gore.  Don't fall for it, the earth is getting cooler not hotter.

  11. Well do you believe the air quality is getting worse and that nature is acting a bit more odd than it should?

Humans certainly do not help keep the earth in good health when we chop down more trees than we plant.  And choose to use fuel sources that harm the environment.

If anyone is scared, it's the oil companies trying to save their riches from drying up due to alternate fuels being created.  If them oil folks got smart, they would invest in alternate fuels and then have a nice slice of profits from that too.

      Long live the Racoon King!!!

  12. Yes: It IS happening, and yes, we need to do something about it, but, most unfortunately, humans are very poor at reacting to long term consequences... and Global warming is indeed a long term consequence.

  13. There are many basic scientific facts which can only be explained if the current global warming is being caused by an increased greenhouse effect due to carbon dioxide accumulating in the atmosphere from humans burning fossil fuels.

For example, the planet is warming as much or more during the night than day.  If the warming were due to the Sun, the planet should warm a lot more during the day when the Sun has influence.  Greenhouse gases trap heat all the time, so they warm the planet regardless of time of day.  Another example is that the upper atmosphere is cooling because the greenhouse gases trap the heat in the lower atmosphere.  If warming were due to the Sun, it would be warming all layers of the atmosphere.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

We know it's warming, and we've measured how much:

    http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/science...

Scientists have a good idea how the Sun and the Earth's natural cycles and volcanoes and all those natural effects change the global climate, so they've gone back and checked to see if they could be responsible for the current global warming.  What they found is:

Over the past 30 years, all solar effects on the global climate have been in the direction of (slight) cooling, not warming.  This is during a very rapid period of global warming.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/62902...

    http://www.pubs.royalsoc.ac.uk/media/pro...

    A recent study concluded:

“the range of  [Northern Hemisphere]-temperature reconstructions and natural forcing histories…constrain the natural contribution to 20th century warming to be <0.2°C [less than one-third of the total warming].  Anthropogenic forcing must account for the difference between a small natural temperature signal and the observed warming in the late 20th century.”

    http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/full/104...

You can see this in the third graph here, where the dotted lines are just from natural causes, and the full lines are natural + human causes:

    http://www.pnas.org/content/vol104/issue...

If that’s not enough to convince you the Sun isn’t responsible, consider the fact that no scientific study has ever attributed more than one-third of the warming over the past 30 years to the Sun, and most attribute just 0-10% to the Sun.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

So the Sun certainly isn't a large factor in the current warming.  They've also looked at natural cycles, and found that we should be in the middle of a cooling period right now.

"An often-cited 1980 study by Imbrie and Imbrie determined that 'Ignoring anthropogenic and other possible sources of variation acting at frequencies higher than one cycle per 19,000 years, this model predicts that the long-term cooling trend which began some 6,000 years ago will continue for the next 23,000 years.'"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitc...

    http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/ab...

So it's definitely not the Earth's natural cycles.  They looked at volcanoes, and found that

    a) volcanoes cause more global cooling than warming, because the particles they emit block sunlight

    b) humans emit over 150 times more CO2 than volcanoes annually

    http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/Gases/man....

So it's certainly not due to volcanoes.  Then they looked at human greenhouse gas emissions.  We know how much atmospheric CO2 concentrations have increased over the past 50 years:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mauna...

And we know from isotope ratios that this increase is due entirely to human emissions from burning fossil fuels.  We know how much of a greenhouse effect these gases like carbon dioxide have, and the increase we've seen is enough to have caused almost all of the warming we've seen over the past 30 years (about 80-90%).  You can see a model of the various factors over the past century here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Clima...

This is enough evidence to convince almost all climate scientists that humans are the primary cause of the current global warming.

  14. It amazes me how many people still deny that global warming is happening and that man is responsible for it and needs to do something to stop or slow it down.

Some people say it is not happening but the graphs are clear.  Some people say it is happening and is natural but the environmental scientists have shown that the natural cycles would be cooling the planet and that it is man's activities that are causing the warming.

Some people say it is all a scam but the politicians and the scientists have nothing to gain from telling us we must change our ways.  In fact the politicians know that they will make themselves unpopular if they try and introduce sustainable policies.  That is why they appointed the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, to set out the facts and tell us what needs to be done.

The danger is that if we do nothing global warming will happen so fast that we will not have time to adapt and will suffer huge social and economic upheaval as cities get flooded and supplies of food, shelter and energy run short.

The good news is that because it is caused by man, man can stop it.  But only if we act quickly.  We can not afford to wait until global warming causes shortages of the resources we need to put matters right.

The situation is not yet hopeless but it is essential that we take responsibility rather than remain in denial.  We can each take action ourselves and by doing so we can let governments know that there are votes to be had in adopting sustainable policies.

Best wishes for a better future.

  15. It IS happening.

Do you think these guys are in the business of scaring people?  They all say global warming is real, and mostly caused by us.

The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.  EVERY major scientific organization.

In order to believe that this is a hoax, you have to believe that the vast majority of scientists are idiots or liers.    I don't believe that, do you?

  16. Both global warming...... and cooling......are real.  Both have occured in cycles for millions of years.

The whole global warming scam was devised to make $$$ for some and to stroke egos for others (ie. Gore).

The Earth will warm ...... or Cool.....with or without man.

  17. Global Warming is true, there are Natural fazes but we are affecting that to a great extent ,with deforestation ,desertification and pollution., especially air pollution.

A few weeks ago one of NASA's top scientists concluded that the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free within five years, much faster than all previous predictions.

when the north pole is gone , you may have polar bears soon in America ,looking for a home ,

Calculations do not include the accumulative ,speeding up ,factor with time. the increase in water temperature will get faster all the time as well as the melting, when the ice is all gone the deeper cold Ocean currents will be drastically affected, which in turn will affect the warm currents, since all moving bodies of water are connected in series.

This will affect coastal climates ,world wide ,almost instantly. All aquatic flora and fauna will be affected, many dying off and others becoming invasive,

And recently In Chiapas ,and Tabasco in Mexico .more then a million people became homeless overnight with water coming up to their roofs ,because of rains from super evaporation from the forests, this had never happened before. Millions of animals died.

In India 3000 people died because of super storms .

.A few years ago in Europe 3500 people, died during a heat wave ,many of them in France .

Right now the average death toll annually is 150.000 due to Global warming

. these figures are already out of date and are expected to double soon.

In Northern China millions of people are running for their lives because regular dust storms so far have buried 900 villages under the sand and the whole of northern China is turning into a dessert.

The Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year all around the edges ,like a slow burning fire shriveling up their neighbors In the Kalahari huge rivers have dried up and thousand of species are gone due to their habitats disappearing .

The biggest changes are invisible at micro biotic levels species are becoming extinct ,others are multiplying ,

This affects the insect populations that follow ,and changes in that ,affect all that follows in the food chains ,

All life is interrelated of both flora and fauna, And since we are on the top of the food chain ,

we are always the last to know.

So Global warming has its toll there are incidents all over the world ,

    However

confusion rules the day ,i am beginning to think that SCIENCE HAS BEEN INVADED WITH POLITICS AND HUMAN EMOTIONS

The truth is being distorted at high levels,

And lies have been weaved in.

Some of the real dangers are being hidden because there are no solutions , Public could panic.and Authorities would loose control .

Besides Corporations have other priorities and changes will cause loss of profits ,this also affects the truths being published

Others facts are exaggerated so that the phenomena can be used to milk the people.

This is further complicated with Arrogance that will not admit that mankind could be guilty, or that Gods could be out of control ,unloving or incompetent

But I do not think we can make a real difference anymore to change the tide.

On a Global scale,Humanity is not co operative enough .

The poor regions have other priorities such as daily survival.

There is a lot we can do about being more responsible with what we got ,

In the first world countries many do not care or are more interested in Global Control than Global Warming.
