Global warming, if wost comes to worst.?

this isnt really a scientific question as much as a neat idea. If global warming sneaks up on us and starts destroying everything, then is it possible to build a sort of "underwater" society? it may seem a little sci-fi but i would have no objection to living underwater. or in space.

First, it's unlikely that we would end up underwater.  Yes, there is a possibility of the polar ice caps melting, yet it would be a catastrophic melting, which would result in tidal waves which would kill almost everybody.  Survivors of such a cataclysm would most likely form a society which lived in boats, like Waterworld.

Underwater domes and terraforming require massive amounts of technology, and survivors of a major disaster usually can't scare that up.  We don't even have the ability to terraform other planets now; it's prohibitively difficult to get the water and air to the other planet.  We can't even get to the point of balancing the atmosphere for optimal conditions for human life.

Secondly, there is a significant chance that global warming could send us hurtling backwards, and trigger a new ice age.  I know that seems ironic, but global warming isn't a nice, smooth warming trend.  It triggers pockets of hot weather, and pockets of cold weather, which interact and create violent weather such as hurricanes and tornadoes.  It would also interfere with ocean currents, which are largely responsible for climate.  Therefore smaller areas on the planet may revert to far colder temperatures, even if the average temperature on the planet it higher.

So the actual result of the continuation of global warming isn't pretty.  It's very likely to be extremely violent.  I don't think we'd be able to make the best of a bad thing.

the only thing the global warmers have claimed is that the temps might go up by 5 to 10 degrees.

we are in a ice age that would not be bad.

all you need to do is a little research and you would have found that the tree huggers are full of hot air. global warming is pure propaganda.

global warming is a vast issue. no one feels that global warming will have a great impact on us. but it will. and it just started to kick in. life underwater and on space might actually start to happen. but this is our earth. the human species has been on this beutiful planet for so long. it would be sad to find out that we are just throwing it away like that. i think we should all try to conserve. you can't make a picture without all the puzzlepieces. it is not complete. with everyone's participation we can actually make a difference. this is my opinion towards global warming.

Yes, there is a possibility. There are already domes/biodomes that have been made (on land) taht hold a great variety of environments and animals.

The seas have risen and fallen many times and as long as most of the land is 1 foot above the 'current' sea level we will survive but beach front property will be in jersey and maybe Nevada so all is good for people who own land there I guess.

we as humans will have to learn not to be a throw away society.

we in west have massive carbon foot print compared to rest of the world.

but when others start copying us we point finger at them !! why ??
