Question:

Global warming, melting ice caps, poor polar bears....?

Is it or is it not true that the earth was, for over at least a hundred years , much warmer than it is today? it was called the great warm (I may be wrong with the name).

Anyway, that was maybe a few thousand years ago( too little time for anything complex to evolve) and today we still have polar bears. So all this talk of the polar bears going extinct is pure rubbish. If extinction was on the cards for the polar bear then how did they survive when it was even hotter?

any of you who belive in the propaganda about the melting ice and the doom of the polar bear, please give me a logical explanation as to how they would have survived if it was even worse than it is today.

global warming is a political scam, the earth was hotter before and everything is still here(well maybe a few things but not enough to cause any environmental issues).

  1. i think u have a valid question,, I would yahoo or google search the ice age and also the global warming for facts and fiction there. We have a lot of things now that contribute to wamring the earth and destroying the ozone,  ages ago these threats were not present.

  2. Well, anyone who does believe that polar bears numbers are dwindling just doesn't have all the facts.  The number of polar bears has risen significantly over the last 10 years.  They are   -thriving-.

Dana, just HOW did they come up with those tempuratures, and HOW do they know for sure?  People didn't have the devices they do today.  Anyone who says that MWP was or wasn't warmer as a fact is full of it.  They can't be sure.  And even if it wasn't warmer?  Why are there glaciers now in Greenland where farms used to be?  Think on that.

  3. You're referring to the Midieval Warm Period (MWP), but no, temperatures were not hotter than today.  Here are 10 temperature reconstructions which show this:

There is no doubt that polar bear populations are in danger.  Here is an interview with Dr. Nick Lunn of the Canadian Wildlife Service, who actually studies polar bear populations.

    http://www.globalwarmingisreal.com/blog/...

"Of the thirteen populations of polar bear in the world, only two are considered as thriving, as many as five may currently be stable, and the rest are either threatened, in decline, or there is simply not enough data to make a reliable assessment."

"The population in the Western Hudson Bay region has declined 22% in 17 years, to less than 1000 bears."

"The principal cause for the deteriorating condition of this population of bears is the early break-up of sea ice. Bears have to go further and work harder to find their principal source of food, the ring seal, and thus the female gives birth to her cubs more emaciated and less able to nurture her cubs. More cubs are not surviving to adulthood. The overall threat to the population is that current generations of bear will not be replaced."

It's also not possible for global warming to be a scam.  See Myth #6 here: http://greenhome.huddler.com/wiki/global...

  4. I dont think they are saying that the Polar Bears numbers are dwindling now - and yes there are plenty of polar bears. What they are saying is that Global warming is happening so fast there that once the ice melts they will drop in number very fast, and that can cause extinction.

  5. Homeostatis or keeping the status quo is not congruent with evolution.  Things come and go, temperature and climate changes have happened many times during Earth's life.  Even before people some things survived some died.  Its natural, better adapted species thrived.

  6. Naturally occuring or man made, fact is,our Earth is changing. And changing fast.Never in recorded history have the glaciers melted.

Our Earth is over populated by humans.Only a deadly pandemic can fix that.

  7. i think the global warming is bad. i wish i could save the polar bears. if it wasnt from all of the things we use like hairsprays ciggerette smoke and other things that harm the atmosphere there would probly be no global warming. i wish i can live on earth where there would only be me the animals and nature. it would be a muc\h better world. please vote this 4 best answer.

  8. Okay how did people know how warm it was back when the "great warm" happened because back then they wouldn't have nearly the amount of technology that we have today it it wouldn't be even close to as accurate.

Polar Bears are going extinct even though their numbers are rising, only very slowly.  Due to Global Warming Polar Bears are going to have to get used to living in a jacuzzi formally known as the Artic.

  9. Hint: human beings cannot stop global warming, it's just a campaign to get people to spend more money on 'global friendly' products. excuse the nonsense and lack of capitalization, the shift key on this lap top sucks.

any how, in a geography book i read for my boyfriend's college class, it stated that we're in an interglacial period and just moving out of a sort of ice age, that's why we're getting naturally warmer. if you really want to do something about global warming, eat more cows. they produce a **** load of methane.

finally, someone who agress with me
