Question:

Global warming is it real?

It is hard to believe that in only a short time on the planet we have done so much damage. Cars have been around for only over a hundred years, burning of fuels is relatively new and before that basically people burned wood which happens naturally in the environment. Animals go extinct and always will, remember the dinosaurs and the big mammals that followed? Maybe we kill new animals by not allowing the weak to go extinct as they would otherwise have done. I don't think global warming is real in the sense that we have some how triggered the end of the earth. I think it already exist and we can do nothing to stop it. Why do you believe it?

  1. Why do all the doubters of global warming seem to be trying to sell you on the idea. Either the Earth is warming, or it's not. And if it is, then it's a natural phenomenon and humans are not the cause. And if we are the cause, then it's too late to try to stop it, anyway.

Scientists publish their data for peer-review. There is no faith or position of authority in science. You prospect a hypothesis, test the evidence and either support it or disprove it. Science very seldom 'proves' anything. It only predicts.

  2. Well, looking at all the new viruses and diseases coming out... I think we're threatening our quality of life, ours, and the one for our kids.

I dont think the planet will explode.. or so, but will lessen fresh air, fresh water and basic needed things to survive...

Maybe we can not stop it, but reduce it..and give a longer lifespam to it and to us

  3. There are TWO different things that you need to keep clear.

    1) Global warming is happening to a limited degree

    2) Global warming is not proven to be caused by human beings to any significant degree.

It's really that simple.  The universe, solar system and every part go through natural cycles.  The sun is a not a light bulb with a constant output.  You buy a light bulb that is 60Watts 100Watts, etc... The sun doesn't work that way.  Its output varies.

CO2 from human beings is less than a fraction of one percent of all the gases in the atmosphere.

The most important greenhouse gas is water vapor.

The other planets in this solar system are heating up without the help of man made "carbon footprints"

It's REALLY REALLY simple, but the media and Democraps will do everything they can to confuse and mislead on this issue.

  4. Global warming is real and mostly caused by us.  Three reasons, with solid support, most important first.

There's an overwhelming amount of peer reviewed scientific data that says that.  Short and long summaries.

Science is quite good about exposing bad science or hoaxes:

There's a large number of people who agree that it is, who are not liberals, environmentalists, stupid, or conceivably part of a "conspiracy".  Just three examples of many:

"Global warming is real, now, and it must be addressed."

    Lee Scott, CEO, Wal-Mart

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

    Senator John McCain, Republican, Arizona

“DuPont believes that action is warranted, not further debate."

Charles O. Holliday, Jr., CEO, DuPont

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

  5. I heard that there was a convention scheduled in Nevada for Global Warming issues and it had to be cancelled due to the ice and snow they just got!   LOL!

  6. Their data is not there . CO2 is that the cause I don't think so. God when he put us here put the plants to coexist with us . The plants need CO2 as much as we need oxygen . They missed that one bad.

Then methane ,I think there data is all garbage because methane is very light so how did they measure any part of it. They didn't and they will say there is a large lake up in our atmosphere I don't think so as methane is very explosive . Have u heard any explosives of that dimension because a air plain flew through it. No again . If the green house gases are not there neither is global warming.

  7. I suspicious about how it is being "marketed" to us.

It is just a push for New World Order by presenting a Global problem that will require legislation that strips away national sovereignty.

  8. sure is

  9. I'm afraid it's very real.

Recently 2500 independent scientists reported on climate change for the UN. They confirm that the Earth is undergoing a rapid warming trend, and the cause of this trend is man made CO2. Every single institute which looks at the Earth's climate, oceans or atmosphere agree with this assessment.

If Global Warming is a hoax then it involves thousands of scientists, Journals and institutions. That simply isn't feasible.

Lot's of people who have answered this question are deeply confused about historical rises in temperature and CO2. Yes, it's true to say that temperature fluctuates naturally as does CO2. However, the key thing today is that temperature is rising faster than any of these natural rises in Earths history - and that is the biggest problem. The Biosphere simply cannot cope with the pace of change we are inflicting on it.

It's also deeply misleading to cherry-pick temperature rises that occured in the past to 'prove' Global Warming' is natural. It's true that 20,000 years ago the climate was around 10 degrees colder than it was today, however this doesn't mean there has been a 20,000 year warming trend. This warming stopped 10,000 years ago, and the climate began to cool around 8,000 years ago, and continued until very recently. The current warming we are experiencing is a sudden reversal of this and completely contradictory to where climate models suggest the temperature should be heading.

Unfortunately people *really want* to believe that Man Made Climate Change isn't happening, so will seize upon any shred of 'evidence' to justify their continuing selfish behaviour. Don't listen to them - believe what the scientists are telling you!

    Hope this helps.

  10. There is no doubt that the average temperature of the earth is currently increasing.  Empirical data show this unequivocally.

The real debate is over how much of this increase in temperature is man-made, and how much of it is the natural variation in temperature of the Earth.  Al Gore and his "doom-and-gloom", "chicken-little", "the-sky-is-falling" ilk would have you believe that everything is the fault of the evil human race (and especially the Americans), and that we should obliterate ourselves to the great goddess Gaea.  They think mankind should deliberately exterminate itself (with the exception of a few special people, like Al Gore) for the survival of our planet.

But an objective analysis of LONG term (that is, more than 50 years) of earth temperature data shows that we are coming out of a prolonged COLD SPELL, and that earth temperatures more than a thousand years ago, when there were far fewer humans than there are today, were actually HIGHER than our current temperatures, as well as those projected by the computer models Gore et. al. use.

The "doom-and-gloom" crowd like to claim that there is 100% unanimous scientific concensus on the subject -- but they are wrong.  Many climatologists who contributed to the UN report that was recently published specifically asked that their names be deleted from the document, because they disagreed with the conclusions published.  So, there is unanimous agreement among the REMAINING scientists.

h**l, Al Gore -- though he won an Oscar for his "documentary", and is willing to force all Americans to reduce their carbon footprint in order to save the planet -- is one of the greatest hypocrites of all, since his "energy efficient, carbon neutral, ecologically aware" homestead produces a carbon footprint that is four times that of the average American.  Hey, Al, how about a little leadership by example?

    Gadzooks, the spinmeisters are everywhere.

  11. it may be or it may not be.

Okay since you already know all the normal nonsense about pollution and global warming here is a different theory

A scientist (i dont remember the name i read it few months ago) studied the temperature changes for a lot of years and found that for every 10 thousand years the temp of earth increases than it decrease for next 10 thousand year then again increase adn dicrease in a harmonic motion

he then divisied a theory about the increasing amount of CO2

what most people don't consider that oceans have lot od dissolved CO2 and when ocean water evaporate.. CO2 evolved into atmosphere..

what he said was that due to increase in temperature the water evaporate and more CO2 evolved

so what he's saying that CO2 is caused by rising temperature and not vice versa

ALSO i would like to say that almost all the studies thatcheck CO2 levels are looking at only plant animal and human emissions of CO2 but no one looks at water emissions.. but in recent studies it is proved that the ocean waters contain about 80% of earths CO2

  12. If you don't think we've caused global warming, you're right. Congratulations.

The Earth is currently in the midst of a warming period that began in the early to mid-1800s. That started after a cooling period that ran from about 1400 to 1830 which was known as the Little Ice Age.

Art from the 1600s shows the River Thames used to freeze solid in winter, something it does not currently do and has not done in years.

Before the Little Ice Age was a warming period from about 1000 to 1400. During the height of this period, there were vineyards in Finland, Greenland and England, where wine grapes do not currently grow (though they are starting in England).

In Minnesota, there is a town that celebrates St. Urhu's Day on March 16. St. Urhu is the patron saint of Finnish vineyard workers. Obviously, St. Urhu hasn't been busy in recent years since there are no vineyards in Finland (global cooling since Urhu's time has seen to that) but he is credited with driving the grasshoppers from that country, so he used to be busy and may soon be needed again to help grow Finnish grapes.

Of course, what all this shows is that cooling and warming are part of a natural cycle. And, if you look at a responsible chart showing temperature over the last 1000 or 1500 years, you will see our current upswing of temperature is part of that natural cycle, and is right where it should be regardless of what kind of car you drive or how much toilet paper you need per sitting.

And that is what the global warming alarmists really call an inconvenient truth.
