  1. Well I think Global Warming is partly a natural process but us being humans are speeding up the process by like a lot.  So the climate is rapidly changing instead of gradually changing.

    I guess it's time to enjoy this weather we have now.  It could either get hotter or cooler.  No one knows now.

    We just have to adapt to our new surroundings I guess.

    What we SHOULD be doing is stop trying to stop Global Warming and start making changes.  Like no more gas and oil can be used anymore.  We have to change so we can pretty much slow the process up by a lot.  We all need to get smart and start thinking.  We have no where else to go so we are stuck on this planet until we die.  So we need to make the best of it.

  2. you are assuming that;

    1: global warming is man made

    2: that man can control global warming

    if you believe that both of these tenants are true then you are arrogant in believing that man can have that much effect on the global climate.

    if global warming was truly a man made thing, and if it was truly that bad, then the Kyoto protocols and the Bali talks would have required that ALL nations reduce carbon emissions, NOT just the US and Europe. interesting to note that since the Kyoto accords were adopted, the countries that signed the Kyoto accords have not lowered their carbon emissions, and the countries that did not sign the accords DID lower their carbon emissions, and that includes the US.

  3. This planet is 4.5 BILLION years old. It has gone through change after change within that time period. It has been bombarded by comets and asteroids, it has had one big continent separate into what we see today (which by the way are still separating) it has seen species come and go. The climate and weather patterns have changed many times, including those changes that have been witnessed by humans since they started walking upright.

    200 years of industry IS NOT going to destroy this planet. In fact, since the mid '70s there have been more positive changes in terms of pollution standards since the dawn of the industrial revolution. Yet, we are told that things are getting worse and worse, and even worse is that it somehow comes back to the good old US.

    AGW is a political issue under the guise of science. Period. Republicans are jumping on the bandwagon because they see some political expediency to the shift. These spineless jelly fish are simply trying to save their political careers. They know the mass media will never give them any positive coverage, so they somehow think this will gain them some sort of reprieve. (you would think they would know better)

    There is nothing you can do to stop a planet from going through its motions. The only thing humans can do is adapt. After all, that is why humans are on top of the food chain. Anything else IS unnatural.

  4. Solve your grammar. AGW is a hoax and you'll have a much better time if you improve you grammar instead of worrying about something which is natural.

    I'm guessing what you meant to say was, "Global Warming is getting worse everyday. We must do something, but what? Can you give me your opinions?"

    Good luck on that grammar!

  5. I simply can't let Richard get away with that utter BS...

    You make some outrageous claims but, like all AGWs, you cite no sources for them so let me help you:

    Global warming IS man made -

    "global warming was very likely man-made" (very likely in this case means at least 90%) and that "warming of the climate system is unequivocal" this is from the 2007 IPCC report (http://www.ipcc.ch/)

    The IPCC is a UN body convened with the approval of all the world's governments; they were given the Nobel Peace Prize for this report. It would be hard to find a more credible source than this.

    Man can control global warming -

    I'll agree we can't control it but we CAN do something about it meaning: Slow it down, alleviate some of the impacts and possibly reverse some of the causes. Some, just some, of the things we can do are:

    Reduce energy consumption as a whole;

    Reduce climate changing activities (e.g. burning fossil fuel) in particular;

    Sequestering CO2;

    Reflecting more sunlight back to space or reducing the amount that reaches us through physical technologies;

    Encouraging plankton growth in the oceans;

    etc. Some of these are less viable than others but to say there is NOTHING we can do is incredibly defeatist...

    If this is arrogant, then the vast majority of climate experts, governments, policy makers, engineers around the globe are arrogant. By the way, the word is 'tenet' (and yes, that is being arrogant!).

    Trying to link GW - science and fact - to Kyoto - politics is a non sequitur. Since when have politicians ever agreed on a thing? That doesn't make the science wrong; it makes the politicians wrong. Besides, why shouldn't the biggest polluters and/or the countries most responsible for the current levels of CO2, make the first step in reducing?

    You say that "countries that signed the Kyoto accords have not lowered their carbon emissions". I think you have missed the word 'some'! Certainly some have missed their targets, which is unfortunate, but exactly half met or exceeded their targets! Only 22% agreed to 'lower' emissions anyway - your statement is deliberately misleading. The rest promised to reduce the rate of emissions.

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...

    Then you say other non-signatory countries reduced their emissions - you don't say which these are so I can't comment but you do say the USA reduced their emissions...

    According to official US govt stats (http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/1605/flash/f... carbon emissions by the USA from fossil fuel were:

    1997 (year Kyoto was signed) - 5,570 mill metric tons

    2005 (year Kyoto became fully in force) - 5,974 MMT

    2007 (last complete year) - 5,984

    None of these are a decrease... wanna tell me what stats you were referring to?

    Really, this is unfair: Some people come here expecting facts not distortions!

  6. THE VERY FIRST WE MUST DO IS TO ERADICATE OUR 20th CENTURY DEPENDENCE ON FOSSIL FUELS. WE ELIMINATE USAGE OF COAL, OIL, AND THEIR BYPRODUCTS.

    ALSO... USAGE OF NUCLEAR PLANTS FOR ENERGY IS INSANE. NOT ONLY DO WE EXPOSE OURSELVES TO THE DANGERS OF OPERATING SUCH WITH IT BEING AN INVITING TARGET TO TERRORISTS. THE MORE FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM IS WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE WASTE PRODUCED FROM THEM. REMEMBER THE HALF-LIFE OF THAT WASTE.

    LASTLY, WE CANNOT CONTINUE RAPING OUR PLANET FOR ITS ASSETS. EVERYTHING HAS A FINITE LIMIT AS TO AVAILABILITY. TREES, SALT, POTABLE WATER, OIL, HEAVY AND LIGHT METALS, COAL, AND, EVEN MORE, ROOM TO LIVE.

    IN CLOSING, MAYBE THAT'S WHY WE ARE ANXIOUS TO EXPLORE OTHER PLANETS. COULD BE THAT SCIENCE KNOWS OUR LIFE ON THIS ROCK IS LIMITED.

  7. adapt. Seriously, we can't solve a changing climate. If the climate is changing, animals (includes humans) will be required to adapt. Thus we should be investing in how best to mitigate any potential negative side effects from either a warming world or a cooling world. Instead of throwing money at trying to CONTROL the climate, we should be wisely investing money into research into how it might impact our extraordinarily complex eco-system. We will never understand the full implications or the full causes, but we can prepare and invest wisely in areas that would better allow humans to adapt to fluctuations in temperatures and the changes in the earth's climate that comes with those fluctuations.
