Global warming opinion?

Question

Hey. I never really realized that there were as many people as there are that think global warming is a myth.

I'm not here to tell you if you are right or wrong, but I would just like to know if the majority of people who think it's not true are from an older generation or is it pretty evenly divided?

I mean it was pretty much proved in the movie "Day after tomorrow!" - ha ha just kidding.

hey! global warming is not a myth... ( FYI to all). We need to help save our earth because if we're not going to do this we will all suffer at the end. Think about all your future sons and daughters, if you have'nt experience the effect of global warming then pls think for them because they will for sure experience this. Pls SAVE MOTHER EARTH. BE CONCERN, IT'S FOR ALL OF US!

I find it extremely interesting that the people so far (except for 1), who have very strong opinions, have not seemed to answer your question!

I have no problem with telling you that I am 54 years old next month.

I know that we have been in a state of 'Global Warming' for the last 15,000 years and that CO2 is Not a so-called 'Greenhouse Gas' because I understand some basic SCIENCE!

I suspect that most of these fools do not wish to admit how young and naive they really are, or that they are actually lacking in sufficient intelligence to even understand a simple question!

This would completely blow away credibility of there credentials if they were totally honest!

I can say that anyone can say anything on the internet.

This does not make it true however.

I will be interested to see if any of these so--called experts, have  enough intelligence to understand the question, and respond with an honest answer.

Okay I'm 22yrs old and I believe global warming IS a HOAX.  I believe it is a hoax because global warming has been going on ever since the earth has been around.  Think about how there have been more than one ice age, that means that the earth has been going through extreme temperature changes from the beginning.  The midevil ages were especially warm.  Humans aren't going to destroy this planet.  Think about the big accident that happened at the Chernobyl power plant.  When the big nuclear meltdown happened the radiation from it killed basically everything around.  However now plant life has begun growing back in the area and wildlife have also come back to the area and they are doing just fine.  The earth can overcome anything that humans throw its way in a long enough time.  These greenhouse gases are normal ocurring gases.  Especially carbon dioxide!!!  I don't see how all these people can blame Co2 for temperature changes.  Co2 is supposed to be around!  Co2 is what sustains plant life.  It's what humans exhale when they breath.  Think about volcanoes when they erupt all the dangerous gases they throw into the air, when a volcano erupts it kills off plant life and not just where the lava flows either.  Humans can die from the gases volcanos put off.  However after the eruption in enough time everything starts to return to normal.  Also if Al Gore is so concerned with doing something about global warming he should probably stop using his private jet, and riding around in big limousines.  Al Gore is making big money from this global warming hysteria that he's very succesfully spreading.  He has investments in all these companies that are coming up with this stuff to save the enviroment.  It's in Al Gore's best interest to have people scared to death by this impending doom from global warming. So I encourage you to research about this global warming and not just from bias resources like this "An Inconvient Truth" movie by Al Gore.  Scare tactics are being used against scientists researching this stuff also.  A lot of this scientists that are preaching the global warming propaganda aren't even climatologist, and a lot of them don't even have any experience in studying this kind of stuff.

Interesting question.

It may be that there could appear a kind of generation gap because the issue is a new one, and not taught in schools until relatively recently.

I believe in man made global warming because I've learnt about it. Today, the fact that CO2 is a greenhouse gas IS basic science, some years ago it may not have been.

That said, there are plenty of 'older' people who accept it, and in fact you would have a hard time finding serious scientists of any age who don't.

I am 47 and I believe that global warming is happening, that we humans have impact, I don't believe that it will be a catastrophic thing. I agree with Dr. Christy's' assessment of global warming.

I personally think its true ,due to emissions,etc.

The ozone layer is getting thinner,plus in my lifetime it has gotten Hotter every year!!!!!

I keep hearing we are heading for global cooling! Sunspot activity which was at a high cycle through the 90's has decreased which has already resulting in 1 degree of cooling and changing ocean currents. El Nino is over and La nina is in.

Most everyone now agrees that the next decade will be cooling, how can we have global warming if the planet is cooling?

By the way in Indiana (where I am from) this winter scientists predicted 5 snow storms of several inches which never happened. How can we predict global temperature 20 years from now if we can't preduct local conditions for the next 24 hours?

To directly answer your question, I am pushing 50. One of the things I have learned over the years is that young people are STUPID.

EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us.  The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.

I'm 53 and believe that mankind's activities have accelerated natural cycles since the advent of the Industrial Age.

The educational system was a lot different when I grew up, most families had moms at home and were more closely connected to their extended families, and of course, there was no Internet to make people an instant authority on things. You had to read the paper and magazines, watch TV news (which was actually news!), or go to the library to become informed on most matters.  And of course your relatives had a lot to say about things like the cold war, hippies & Vietnam, etc., and us kids mostly listened to what was being said.

It should be interesting to look at the answers to your question.  Good one.
