Global warming? please help!?

I am a college student. From time to time we get groups on my campus that try to get support for their causes. recently global warming has been getting a lot of people to come out. I frequently get stopped to sign something or to be put on a mailing list. THEY DON'T LIKE ME! I don't know why as that is all I ask, "Why?" It was something I learned to ask in kindergarden and something not one of them has been able to answer. If you are trying to convince me that something is not how it is then the burden of proof is on you. I have not felt global warming summers are hot winters are cold. If you are trying to prove something other then that you need to prove it. I am not saying global warming does not exist I'm just saying there is no reason to prove something doesn't exist. It can't be done. But proving something does can be. So does GW exist? well yes... that has been proven but over the course of the last 5000+ years. So my question is. Is GW our fault or something natural? sources req

  1. It sounds like those people are acting like the people many of them complain about. Religious people or conservatives who don't listen to other ideas. My point is they dont like it when some conservatives or religious people don't listen to their points but they won't listen to anyone else's. Think about it that way. And don't forget, Al Gore has made 100 million dollars and won a Nobel Prize for promoting the fear of Global Warming. What has he done with that money. Built a house that, even after outfitting his home with energy efficent devices, still uses 232 times as much energy as the average home. Remember, People always look for a reason to panic.

  2. Personally I believe it is all about Global Power over people by using time proven scare-tactics to bilk money from people.

From NPR - not a right wing reporting agency by any estimation.

"Some 3,000 scientific robots that are plying the ocean have sent home a puzzling message. These diving instruments suggest that the oceans have not warmed up at all over the past four or five years. That could mean global warming has taken a breather. Or it could mean scientists aren't quite understanding what their robots are telling them.

This is puzzling in part because here on the surface of the Earth, the years since 2003 have been some of the hottest on record. But Josh Willis at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory says the oceans are what really matter when it comes to global warming. "

  4. YES GW IS OUR FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!We drive big cars, NOT hybrid cars, DON'T recyle stuff that need recycling, AND we test stuff on poor little animals, STOP DOING IT!!!!

  5. Your a college student. Read and evaluate.  Here is a link to the IPCC reports - the basic science for the subject researched  20 years.

    http://www.ipcc.ch/ipccreports/assessmen...

Working Group I (WGI) presents the physics behind global warming and the models used to determine if a problem exist.

WGII is the potential consequences and impacts, WGIII is the strategies for reducing the consequences.

Ar4 is the synthesis report put together for policy makers.  It is the easiest one to read.

The US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) have a lot too.  It draws first on the IPCC work.   Lots here. some of it critical of the IPCC work (mostly the early work).

    http://search.nap.edu/nap-cgi/de2007.cgi...

A current summary from the NAS is here - very easy to understand is at this site.

    http://dels.nas.edu/basc/climate-change/

Go to NASA, NOAA, USGS, USDA, and EPA and search for global warming, climate change, and greenhouse effect.  Lots and lots of references there.

Also look for university climatology departments and see if they post any research.  http://www.ucar.edu/ is a university-corporate partnership that researches the issue.

These are scientific, unbiased sources.  Check on the sites, read some of the research and make up your own mind.  There is 20 years worth of research backing up the theory of AGW and there is a consensus among scientist who actually know about the subject that it is a problem.

Look at what the conspiracy theorist have to offer and look at the quality of the sites and "research" (typically this is a blog of someone complaining they can't get published because of biased when the reason is their methods and conclusions are wrong).  Compare the information, look at the consequences if the AGW people are wrong and if the conspiracy theorist are wrong.  It is pretty much a "no-brainer" unless your whole world is tied to oil or partisan politics!

  6. The AGW crowd use the same tactics as the watch tower crowd used for years selling their, the world is ending, convert now or spend eternity in h**l evangelistic message. True faith never questions what they are given to believe by their anointed prophets. I have studied history and understand the lessons that the faithful never get, any pogrom that is oversold with full media blitz has always been a fast money scam and it always will be.

The deniers ask for solid evidence that has been cross-checked and equivalent conclusions arrived at by independent researchers using different methods with the same data. The AGW proponents have never done this to date with any of their conclusions. They can not show this type of conclusive proof of their theories because every researcher that has attempted such research has ended up joining the denier side because they are unable to even come close to what the original faked research claimed to prove.
