Question:

Globalization of crime?

I've just read a report that eastern european crime syndicates have prettymuch erradicated and killed off almost all organized crime organizations in Italy and southern europe and another about how they are working on killing off organized crime in the USA aswell and that a lot of the reduction in crime is somewhat due to russian and eastern european syndicates killing everyone...

Russian organized criminals are also starting relations with south american gangs, they supply them with guns in exchange for "goods and services" (coke and prostitutes for american consumption).

So... Is crime globalizing under eastern european influence? Would police anywhere be able to keep in check a global and well organized system of criminal groups?
