Question:

Glock G26 vs. G27 and Laser Sights?

Just a couple of quick question for those of you who are knowledgeable with firearms. I'm looking at buying either a Glock G26 or a G27. I believe these are the smaller, baby Glock type weapons, while the G26 is the 9mm and the G27 is the .40. Okay, does the stepup to the 40 as opposed to the 9 really give you that much stopping power in a defensive situation, or are they fairly equal? Last one, for someone not highly trained in defensive firing, is the $300 plus price for some of the laser sights worth it? Thanks for any advice on these questions.

  1. The .40 technically has more so-called stopping power, but it kicks a bit more.  Besides, shot placement is the gold standard: learn to hit what you aim at -- dead center -- and you won't need more bang to get a good outcome.

  2. Yea I would go with a .40 caliber any day over a 9mm. A 9mm is basically a .38 caliber, which is what the U.S. military abandoned back in the early 1900s for the .45, because it has more stopping power. A .40 is good for stopping power and doesn't have as much kick as a .45, also a lot more stopping power than a 9mm. Although a 9mm might be funner to shoot because of the lack of as much recoil.

  3. Manageability more important than stopping power, both have the same dimensions but the 27 has much more kick. I used to own a 27 as a backup and 22 as primary, the 22 was a pleasure but the 27 would make me cringe from the kick which would make me pull off target. Go shoot both and choose for yourself, I have mild arthritis in my hands which affects my choice. As for laser sights, become proficient with open sights. Laser sights rely on batteries and can fail, not to say they have no place but is just like buying a red dot sight right away for your 1st rifle without getting used to open sights.

  4. go with the glock 39 its a subcompact .45gap. glock made the .45gap just as powerful as the .45acp but  shorter and with a price tag of around $500 and the glock name this is the pistol to get.

  5. I have shot both:

The G26 can hold 10 rounds in the clip making it have a slight advantage.  9mm rounds do not have as much stopping power as they travel at very high velocity.  But you can buy particular rounds to overcome that problem.

The G27, which I own, is a very nice gun.  If you can shoot well, meaning you can aim good, not just fire fast and hope you hit something then it is for you.  It can only hold 9 in the clip.

Overcoming the smallness of the weapon is easy too.  Just go online anywhere with holsters for sale and buy the finger extensions for the clips; you just slide the base off of the ones you have and slide the new one on.  They are very inexpensive.

Do not pay 300 dollars for those sights.  Unless you plan on taking over a city, it will never serve its purpose for you and add weight and bulkiness to your weapon.  Get trijicon night sights which glow in dark and cost about 80 dollars and any dealer can install them for a low amount, especially if you buy it from them.

The kick that everyone always talks about is so misguided.  If you are a bad shot, many times it is because people think too much and try to control the weapon.  The 9mm does that to you, it makes you be able to control it more and people that do not shoot a lot get worse.  The added kick is not much different and lets you concentrate on letting the gun do the work instead of thinking you can.  so dont base your choice on kick alone.

Hope this helps..if it does how about giving me best answer
