Gloucester Rugby gives early contract extension to Charlie Sharples – Rugby news
Gloucester based English Rugby Union club, Gloucester Rugby, has announced the extension in contract of their talented winger, Charlie Sharples. The new two-year deal will enable Sharples to remain in Gloucester colours until the end of the 2014 season.
Sharples is currently under a two-year contract that he signed at the start of the 2010/12 season. Officials at the club have confirmed the extension of the contract in a statement released on their website on Thursday, July 14.
The statement read, “Gloucester Rugby are delighted to confirm that Charlie Sharples, one of the club's brightest young English talents has agreed a contract extension to remain at Kingsholm.”
The Hong Kong born Sharples has expressed his delight at signing a new contract before the expiry of the old deal. He praised Gloucester Rugby’s management’s proactive approach and termed it helpful for him to focus on the game.
Sharples said, “It's a weight off my mind. I knew I wanted to stay and I was pretty certain that the club wanted me around so I thought why wait around until Christmas time?"
Commenting on his stay at the Gloucester, Sharples confirmed that the long-term contract will help him solely concentrate on his game and develop his rugby skills further. He also praised the club’s family like atmosphere and thanked the players for their
support. Sharples has praised the training facilities and the coaching staff available at the Kingsholm. He further added that he and his family is enjoying their stay at Gloucester.
The 21-year-old Sharples has progressed his way up from the developmental structure established at the Gloucester Rugby. He has been with the club since the 2007/08 season and so far he has made 47 appearances for Gloucester in the Aviva Premiership competition.
He has also scored 15 tries for the club in these 47 games.
Gloucester Rugby’s Head Coach, Bryan Redpath, has expressed his satisfaction on retaining the services of his young winger. He added that the extension in the contract was a reward for Sharples hard work, effort and dedication for the game and for the club.
Redpath has expressed his satisfaction with Sharples new contract at the club. He termed the long-term deal as incentive for his hard work and good performance. He further added, “He's worked incredibly hard and I genuinely think there's more to come from
him.”
He added, “He's got great talent but he also applies himself and has a real desire to make himself a better player.” Redpath termed the development, progress and Sharples’ achievement as the symbol of the club’s overall vision. He reiterated the club’s support
for young, talented players and their development.
