The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 batsman, Dan Housego on Tuesday signed a two-year contract with Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.
The 23-year-old right-handed batsman has been in discussion with Gloucestershire for several months and finally decided to make the move to Nevil Road for the next two seasons.
The right-handed batsman was the leading run-scorer in the second XI Championship last season, as he compiled a tally of 883 runs in seven matches at a stunning average of 110.37, which included four centuries. After impressing in
the second XI Championship, the Berkshire-born Housego is expected to slot in as the number three batsman in Gloucestershire’s batting order.
Housego, a former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 junior International, started his cricketing career as a member of Gloucestershire academy before moving to Middlesex, where he made his first-class debut against Derbyshire in 2008. In his first three-seasons
at Middlesex, the batsman featured in just seven first class matches. However his improved performances earned him eight matches in the 2011 season and he scored 407 first class runs at an average of 31.30.
After his contract with Panthers expired at the end of 2011 season, the right-hander did not sign an extension as he was seeking the opportunity to play more second XI cricket and was unlikely to get such opportunities while staying
with the Middlesex County Cricket Club. Hence he decided to move to Gloucestershire CCC.
Gloucestershire's coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Garry-Bracewell-c67876 was excited at having Housego back in the squad and hoped the middle order batsman will continue his good form in first class cricket.
"Dan has been one of the best, if not the best, top-order batsmen in Second XI cricket and we are delighted that he joins us, in particular, to fill the difficult number three position where I am confident he is ready for consistent
first team cricket," said Bracewell speaking to the media reporters on Tuesday.
Housego also expressed delight at joining the young promising Gloucestershire squad, and would be hoping to make a mark for his new team.
"I am delighted to be joining Gloucestershire at such an exciting time for the Club and becoming part of such a young and promising squad," said Housego.
