Essex batted first and were all-out for 195 runs in 37.5 overs. Lower-order player, Tim Phillips, was the top scorer for his side, collecting an unbeaten 58 runs in the match. Although his score remained the highest of the game, he would have liked to end
up on the winning side.
The hosts had a shaky start to their innings, but managed to win the match comfortably in the end by four wickets. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Andrew-Cockbain-c63756 played really well, guiding his side to victory with an unbeaten 48.
The pitch was good for the batsmen overall, but had some assistance for the bowlers as well. Essex’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RS-Bopara-c2373 decided to bat first after winning the toss, but the decision proved to be a miserable one in the end.
Adam Wheater and Mark Pettini opened the innings for their team, but failed to provide a solid start. The latter was dismissed in the very first over of the innings after a four-ball duck.
Wicketkeeper batsman, Wheater, did get off to a decent start, but failed to make the most of it and got out after adding 17 runs off the same number of deliveries to the total. He struck one four and a six in his cameo innings.
England’s Bopara was unable to make an impression, as he managed just five runs in his short stay at the crease. He was followed by veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134, who contributed just 13 runs to the total.
Just a couple of balls later, Netherlands’ star player, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RN-ten-Doeschate-c2338, was also sent back to the pavilion for a duck and half of the visitors’ side was sent back to the hut for 49 runs on the board.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jaik-Mickleburgh-c1627 was the next man to be dismissed after adding just one run to the total. He was followed by Tom Westley, who failed to carry onto the start to his innings, getting out for 11 runs.
Seven wickets had fallen down for just 52 runs on the board, but the Essex lower-order fought back.
Phillips and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Masters-c1333 was unable to get going, as he had to take a long walk back to the dressing room after a two-ball duck.
Essex were 115/9 at one stage, but an 80-run stand between Phillips and Chris Wright guided the team into a fighting position.
Wright was the last wicket to fall in the innings, but he made a solid contribution of 42 runs. Phillips scored an unbeaten 58 runs with the help of four fours and a couple of sixes, but ran out of partners at the other end.
Gloucestershire’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Herbert-Frederick-Fuller-c65789 picked up four wickets in the match, destroying the opposition.
