Gloucestershire v Kent: County Championship Division Two - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785’s Innings Recap
Day One of the County Championship Division Two match between Gloucestershire and Kent certainly belonged to the bowlers, at the College Ground, Cheltenham in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
A total of 13 wickets fell in the day, as the bowlers remained dominant throughout the day. Kent had batted first in the match and were all-out for 205 runs, courtesy a spectacular spell by the home team’s seamer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Will-Gidman-c2793, who picked up five wickets
in the innings.
Gloucestershire had to bat a complete session of play, as the opposition was not able to bat longer in the day. The team managed 107 runs until close of play, losing three wickets in the process.
New Zealand’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamish-Marshall-c1525 looked impressive in the day for the hosts, collecting 37 runs. He didn’t seem to have many problems in the middle, but failed to carry onto the start to his innings and threw his wicket away in the closing overs of play.
The pitch still had some assistance for the bowlers, as the ball was doing a few tricks off the seam and in the air. However, conditions were way better compared to the start of the match. This allowed the hosts to end the day with a slight upper hand.
Marshall and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Dent-c1241 walked out in the middle to open the innings for Gloucestershire. Their aim would have been to avoid making mistakes against the new ball in order to frustrate the opposition’s bowlers.
However, Dent was unable to resist much in his short stay at the crease. He was the first man to be dismissed in the innings after adding just 12 runs to the total off 29 deliveries.
It seemed that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KS-Williamson-c1813 batted with a lot of maturity and responsibility.
The pair put together 78 runs for the second wicket partnership, guiding their side’s total closer to 100. They had just a few overs left in the day, but lost the momentum towards the end.
Marshall was dismissed after collecting a steady 37 runs off 76 balls with the help of six boundaries. He would have been frustrated, getting out with just seven more overs left in play.
Just six runs later, Williamson was also sent back to the pavilion after adding 29 runs to the total. The fall of two quick wickets shifted the momentum with the visitors, but the overall day belonged to Gloucestershire.
When the day ended, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Taylor-c1253 were batting on 10 and two runs respectively.
Kent’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JC-Tredwell-c1676 picked up one wicket each in the day.
