http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802’s Innings Recap – Day One
Gloucestershire trail by 98 runs with seven wickets remaining in their first innings against Kent, in a match of the County Championship Division Two, at the College Ground, Cheltenham in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
On day-one, Kent were bowled out for 205 runs in their outing whereas the hosts managed 107 runs for the loss of three wickets until close of play.
There was some struggle for the visitors’ batsmen in the day, as only five of them managed to reach double figures. The highest score of the innings came from middle-order batsman, Darren http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stevens-c91368, who collected 67 runs.
The pitch had some assistance for the bowlers, as it appeared to be a little bit damp. Gloucestershire’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Gidman-c984, was lucky to win the toss and he decided to field first straight away. His decision proved to be a correct one, as the bowlers were able to get a lot of movement off the pitch and in the air.
Kent’s start was a dismal one, as their openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JL-Denly-c1703 and Chris Piesley struggled to put bat on ball. They played and missed on quite a few balls before the latter was finally dismissed without troubling the scorers.
Denly was the next man to be dismissed in the innings after failing to make an impression. He was dismissed after scoring 13 runs off 24 balls, leaving the side 21/2 at that stage.
Kent’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Martin-van-Jaarsveld-c74944, failed to get going and was sent back to the pavilion after adding just one run to the total. He was followed by Sam Northeast, who looked impressive in his cameo knock.
The seasoned campaigner collected 34 quick runs from just 33 balls with the help of eight boundaries. He would have been disappointed to throw his wicket away after getting a solid start.
Just three runs later, former England wicketkeeper batsman, Geraint http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217, was also sent back to the hut. He was unable to open his account and had to take a long walk back to the pavilion.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JC-Tredwell-c1676 fought back hard for the team.
The pair put together 83 runs for the seventh-wicket partnership, guiding the team into a much better position. They got out after collecting 67 and 45 runs in their respective outings.
Kent ended up with 205 runs before being dismissed in their first innings.
Gloucestershire’s medium-pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Will-Gidman-c2793, was the pick of the bowlers in the innings. He took a five-wicket haul, restricting the opposition to a lesser total in the end.
