Centurion http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dawid-Malan-c1344, succeeded in propelling Middlesex closer to a spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing Clydesdale Bank 40, after securing a 10-wicket win against Gloucestershire at the College Ground in Cheltenham on July 22.
Aided by a colossal unbeaten 218-run stand between Rogers (122*) and Malan (89*), Middlesex comfortably chased 214 in the space of 31 overs, at the expense of zero wickets. Gloucestershire’s bowling attack was powerless in the face of the two batsmen, with
Liam Norwell (5-0-56-0) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Saxelby-c1572 (5.3-0-49-0) proving particularly expensive.
Earlier, Gloucestershire had been put to bat first, after losing the toss, and opened their innings with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Finn-c2566 (8-0-27-2) stepping in to send
Nicol packing in the 5th over, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Toby-Roland-Jones-c2696 (who finished with figures of 8-1-24-3) in the 8th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dan-Housego-c1305 (who top-scored for his side with 68) attempted to bring the team back on track with a 3rd wicket 67-run partnership. Gloucestershire had reached 90 by the 22nd over when Howell was bowled out by Neil
Dexter.
Housego established another lasting partnership with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Berg-c1457. Housego followed soon
after in the very next over, caught out by Rogers off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PR-Stirling-c2200.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jonathan-Batty-c1728 (1) all gave their wickets away without offering much resistance.
By the end of 40 overs, Gloucestershire managed to reach a total of 214 – a target which posed no problems for Middlesex, who won with 57 deliveries to spare, with not a single wicket having fallen.
The victory propelled Middlesex to the top spot on the Group A points table for the Clydesdale Bank 40. However, following their defeat, Gloucestershire are doubtful as far as their qualification for the next stage of the tournament is concerned.
