Gloucestershire v Northamptonshire - County Championship Division Two - Day 1 – Live Score and Update
Gloucestershire 220 v Northamptonshire 73/7 (27.0 ov) - Northamptonshire trail by 147 runs with 3 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
Fans at County Ground, Bristol, witnessed some outstanding bowling from Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire as both teams made life h**l for the batsmen at the opposite end on Tuesday, September 04.
Northamptonshire chose to field on winning the toss, but it was after conceding 41 runs that the side finally made their first breakthrough when L Evans trapped BAC Howell right in front of stumps on a score of 29.
In the next over, J Hall struck to send EJM Cowan back home on a score of eight, with the team still standing on a score of 41.
The Norths made a staggering comeback and grabbed their third wicket of the day with only 44 runs on the board when Hall bowled-out DM Housego on one run.
Disaster struck when the batting side lost their fourth wicket when Hall struck for the third time, taking the wicket of HJH Marshall, who hit the showers without scoring a run.
Skipper APR Gidman and IA Cockbain then launched a blatant attack, hammering the bowlers all around the park, taking the score to 95 before Gloucestershire lost their fifth wicket on the departure of Cockbain, who fell after jabbing ten runs.
The duo of WRS Gidman and APR Gidman then raced the total to 128, before the skipper was trapped in front of stumps by DJ Willey after smacking a knock of 56.
Later, wicketkeeper/batsman JN Batty clobbered a well tamed innings of 55 off 96 to help his side amass a first innings tally of 220.
L Evans and AJ Hall were phenomenal with the ball as they bagged four and three wickets to help their side in stopping the opposition from hammering a big total.
Northamptonshire then smashed an opening stand of 30 runs before they suffered the demise of NJ O'Brien, who hit ten runs off the bat.
The side then suffered a terrible batting collapse as they lost seven wickets with five batsmen failing to score in double figures as the Norths scored 73 at stumps.
