Glover Teixeira clarifies he did not challenge Jon Jones – UFC News
Glover Teixeira, light heavyweight contender who currently stands with 18 wins and 2 losses, is being considered the next big thing in UFC. He is considered among the best fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Recently, Teixeira was reported challenging
light heavyweight champion Jon Jones for a match but the Brazilian mixed martial artists has shrugged off the rumours.
In an interview with MMAJunkie.com, Teixeira clarified he did not challenge Jon Jones, instead he only asserted he was ready for the showdown.
“I didn't challenge Jon Jones,” said Teixeira. “But they asked if I'm ready to fight Jon Jones, and I said yeah. If they call me to fight Jon Jones, I'm ready to fight anyone in the UFC. I'll go, and I'm confident I'm going to that title because that's what
I have to think.”
Glover Teixeira is one of those fighters who are being avoided by most top level fighters, as they know the Brazilian has the potential to end their game. Last week, it was reported that the Brazilian wanted to face Jones for a title match but Teixeira says
it was quoted out of context.
“It's no rush in getting the title. I feel kind of bad for saying something like that [about Jones]. I have one fight in the UFC, and I cannot challenge for the title. But if they ask me, yeah, I'm ready to go,” he added.
For now, fans would be disappointed to know that there will not be a fight between Teixeira and Jones anytime soon. By last week, things were supposedly shaping up for a possible fight between the two, but now it has changed.
As Teixeira puts it, he is in no hurry to face the champion. He wants to take his sweet time to weigh his options, gain more experience and then go for a title shot. Believe it or not, Teixeira is actually doing the right thing. He does not want to go to
the championship level to be flushed out. Instead, he wants to reach the status once he is ready to maintain it for a long time.
