Are human tablets OK? If so what is the dose for ongoing treatment or would plain fish oil be an alternative? My dog gets sore when he over does it and it is cold and damp. What drugs do vets use for pain relief in dogs? Can I give aspirin? I have given him a heat pack tonight but I just wish he could tell me where to put it!

  1. Glucosamine tablets are recommended for joints for dogs, we give it to our dog, although keeping regular tabs with your vet is a must as well. Painkillers however isnt such a good idea.

  2. You can give aspirin but NEVER ibuprofen, tylenol, naproxen etc.  Yes glucosamine can be given to dogs, they even have specially made pills just FOR dogs that they can chew.  Human tablets would be fine too but you'll have to make him swallow them as I doubt they'd taste very good.  Fish oil can also be given.  You could call a local vet and ask about dosage according to the weight of the dog.

  3. i used to give my dog half a tablet each day and a cod liver oil capsule with the food in the evening but i would not chance aspirin, ask a trained vet
