Hi, I am 18 weeks pregnant and had my glucose test 2 weeks ago - both mum and dad are diabetic and I have PCOS. My ffasting blood tests showed 4.5 (not diabetic) but after I had the glucose drink and the second bloods were taken the results showed that the levels has dropped to 2.5. The nurse said this was extremely rare and didnt understand why it had happened - I am seeing a consultant about it on Tuesday, just wondering if anyone else had any ideas? Thanks!

  1. That IS rare!

My guess is that the consultant will want to repeat the test.  There are a LOT of sources of error that could have happened.

You might want to also ask this consultant for an A1C test.  This test measures the  AVERAGE of your blood sugar over a 90 day period.  Most doctors use it now instead of the "fasting test".  If you A1C is NORMAL then you probably do NOT have diabetes -- or at least it is very well controlled.

  2. For some people the glucose hits hard and fast then drops even faster. This is HYPOglycemia. And it isn't that rare at all. Basicly you would need to follow all the same rules as a diabetic except for the medications.

For example keep glucose levels as normal as possible. No heavy starchy foods, no sugary foods, etc. That way you don't go crashing.
