  1. Glycolic acid contains a group of COOH, meaning a carbon atom with a double bond to an oxygen atom and a single bond to a hydroxyl group (oxygen and hydrogen). A glycol is any molecule with two hydroxyl groups. Glycerin (or glycerol) is a propane molecule with three hydroxyl groups, one on each carbon atom. They are three separate compounds.
