Gmail for Blackberry?

Okay, so I just got a Blackberry Pearl. My personal email is a gmail account. I set up my Gmail using the blackberry personal email setup tool. It works fine that way, but whenever I send an email, it sends me a notification and saves it in my email folder. is there anyway to turn this off?

Also, I downloaded the Gmail application from gmail.com/app.

This is also pretty cool, but it doesn't seem to automatically forward the messages to my phone. is there a way to change the settings so it checks for messages more frequently?

This is a common occurrence when you set up a Gmail account on your phone. What you have to do is set up a filter on your Gmail account (on the BlackBerry Internet Service web site from your phone carrier) to block messages coming from your e-mail address.

For example, if your e-mail address was [e-mail], you would need to set up a filter to NOT deliver messages to the device when the message has a FROM address of [e-mail]. This will block messages sent from you from being delivered back to your phone.
