Go Army steals the spotlight on Sunday event
One of the most fancied racehorses, Go Army did not disappoint his fans and connections in the 15th running of the San Miguel Beer Marho Cup Classic that took place on Sunday afternoon. This victory was a matter of pride for his stable that is
situated at the Santa Ana Park in Naic, Cavite, and his veteran jockey Jonathan Hernandez.
This was a comeback race for the 4-year-old colt that he finished in a time of 2 minutes and 10.4 seconds after holding off the pace setter racehorse Heaven Sent. Go Army ran past Heaven Sent in the last 300 metres of the 2000 metres meet and clinched victory
in the Classic event by a distance of six lengths.
The winner horse is sired by Mr. Sutter out of J’Approve and was the juvenile champion in the year 2008. Moreover, he also won the prize worth P1 million for his owner Hermie Esguerra after he made an effective comeback since his long layoff after sustaining
a leg injury.
Sunday was a lucky day for Esguerra stable, since its racehorse Dimasalang gave a spectacular performance in the Philracom-Juvenile Fillies and Gastambide took over the field in the SMB Colt Mile earlier that day.
Dimasalang was also ridden by jockey Hernandez in the Juvenile Fillies. The race was run over a distance of 1600 metres and Dimasalang finished the event in a time of 1 minute and 46 seconds. The racehorse was then awarded prize money of P500, 000 by holding
off seven 2-year-old fillies.
After five other starts, Gastambide then clinched victory in the Colt Mile under jockey John Paul Guce. In this event, Gastambide was successful in holding off Yes Pogi, the horse of the year contender along with two other competitors, by finishing the race
in a time of 1 minute and 43.5 seconds. Both Dimasalang and Gastambide earned P500, 000.
The PSCO Filly Mile event was won by Redemption in a time of 1 minute and 45.5 seconds, while the 1600 metre Juvenile Colt was captured by Barkley in a time of 1 minute and 45 seconds. On the other hand, 100 metre Sprint was dominated by EJ’s Magic for the
third successive year under the jockey Fernado Racquel.
It was a good day for Jesse Guce, as he was aboard Redemption and Barkley when both the horses clinched victories in the stakes events.
