Go Native in for a busy campaign
The trainer, Noel Meade, has a very strong faith in his under charge, Go Native. Despite his failure to perform reasonably in the last race, the County Meath trainer has already started picking future options for the nine-year-old brown gelding.
Even though he ended up falling down in the Grade 1 Dobbins & Madigans @ Punchestown Morgiana Hurdle on 18th November, 2012 at Punchestown over two miles, the gelding made sure that he gave the toughest of times to the two other opponents, specially, Hurricane Fly.
The race fell right in the hands of the eventual winner when Go Native blundered the final flight while riding with jockey, Mark Walsh.
"We'll probably run him at Christmas, but we won't rule anything out just yet," Meade told At The Races.
"We'll see how he is. There's a fortnight before the Fighting Fifth (December 1). Obviously he had a heavy fall, but he slid along the ground, so he didn't take the brunt of it.
"If he was OK I wouldn't rule out Newcastle. I'm not saying he will go there, we'll just leave the door open for the moment. He seems fine, he got up straight away and was OK this morning, but we might just get the physio in to have a look and check him out.”
Considering that the race was his first attempt at hurdle racing since 2010, the nine-year-old was nothing less than pleasing.
Double Eclipse’s gelding missed the Grade 1 Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy on 16th March, 2010 at Cheltenham race course over two miles and half a furlong.
He ended tenth in the field of twelve while the title and the prize money awere taken away by, Binocular.
The brown gelding out of, Native Idea, had been active twice before the most recent outing in which he missed the last hurdle.
The Docado Syndicate owned won the www.swordsecurity.com (Q.R.) Race on 29th October, 2012 at Galway race course over a mile and six furlongs.
Entered as the favourite, the mount of jockey, Ms. N. Carberry, defeated Cry For The Moon by good 6 ½ lengths.
It is apparent that had Native Go not missed the final jump, he would have been the undisputed winner, he lost the battle fighting and did not give up easily.
Given another fait chance, there is hardly a doubt that he will not perform at par.
