Go Soeda beats Robby Ginepri 6-4, 6-4
Top seed, Go Soeda of Japan, scored a convincing win over 191st ranked, Robby Ginepri of USA, beating him in twin sets 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of the qualifying draw at the US Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston
on Sunday.
The Japanese took an hour and 35 minutes to beat Ginepri and advance to the final qualifier.
Soeda snatched a break in the fifth game of the opener and held his serve in the next game to build a 4-2 lead. The Japanese did not lose any of his serves throughout the set, claiming it 6-4.
The right-hander, Soeda, neither hit any ace nor any double fault. He grabbed 11 of the 15 first and nine of the 12 second delivery points. Ginepri banged in a single ace but he also committed three double faults in the opener.
Soeda and Ginepri won their serve in the first eight games of the second set, levelling the score at 4-4. The Japanese clinched two successive games to win 6-4.
The 27-year-old saved all the four break threats he faced and capitalised on one of the two chances he received in the second set.
The Japanese will play fifth seed, Tommy Haas, in the final round of the qualifying draw. The former world number two beat Chris Wettengel in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the previous match.
Horacio Zeballos defeats Nicholas Naumann 6-3, 6-1
Seeded second in the qualifying draw, Horacio Zeballos of Argentina crushed American, Nicholas Naumann, in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 to move to the final qualifier.
Zeballos claimed the initial breakthrough in the second game of the first set and consolidated on it to grab a 3-0 lead. The Argentinean kept the advantage till the end, serving it out at 5-3.
The world number 26 pounded a couple of aces and the same number of double faults in the second set. The Argentinean inflicted most of the damage with his first serve and return, claiming 14 of the 19 and nine of the 19 points
on them respectively.
In a similar fashion to the first set, Zeballos claimed an early lead in the second, striking twice in the first four games to go up 4-0. The Argentinean hit another blow in the seventh and sealed it 6-1.
Zeballos did not give any break opportunity to his opponent and converted three of the four of his own in the second set. The match lasted for just 59 minutes.
The Argentinean is pitted against Jan Hernych of Czech Republic in the final qualifier.
