Go Soeda outfoxes Kamil Capkovic to reach the title match - Pingguo Challenger
Japanese tennis professional, Go Soeda, outfoxed the 25-years-old Slovak competitor, Kamil Capkovic, to place a berth in the final of the Pingguo Challenger on Saturday. The 77th ranked Japanese dumped her opponent in
straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
It was the fourth face-off between the two professionals. Capkovic was just lucky once in the Beijing Challenger last year. Apart from that, the Japanese player has been winning all major battles including the Honolulu Challenger
second round clash and Singapore Challenger quarter-final earlier this year.
The opening set was all about breakthroughs. It started with the Japanese player dropping his serve game before dumping his opponent in the fourth game to level the scores at 2-2. A brutal fight between the two players kept the
scores together; however, they had traded four more breakpoints between them in the mean that pushed the scores to 4-4.
Finally, Soeda held his serve in the ninth game that also raised the confidence of his opponent who did the same to tickle the scores to 5-5. Capkovic however was forced to drop another serve game in the 12th game of
the opening set that proved to be suicidal for the Slovak. He donated the first half of the match to his opponent and diminished all chances of making a strong impact.
The second set was different from the first. No players were dropping their serve games and holding serves to keep the scores moving. The second seed Japanese was leading 4-3 in the second set before the Slovak dropped serve game
for the first and the last time in the set.
Soeda was gifted another classic opportunity to win another set. He thanked his opponent for that with a thumping cross-court winner that ended the resistance of the Slovak.
It was a taxing battle for both players and the scores don’t do justice to the Slovak who deserved another shot in the form of the final set for the title match spot. He was just unfortunate that his classy down the line winners
were missing by hair.
Soeda stays the hot favourite players to win the contest.
