Go Soeda trounces Benjamin Mitchell in the final eight – 2012 Green World ATP Challenger
Top seeded Go Soeda eased past the Australian rising star, Benjamin Mitchell, in straight sets at the Green World ATP Challenger, a hard court event taking place from 10th to 18th March in Pingguo, China.
He formulated a 6-3, 7-5 victory over the 19-year-old to advance into the semi-finals on Friday.
The defending champion proved his class in an hour and 29-minute marathon and trashed the Australian teenager in style. Soeda dominated throughout the match as he produced a better first serve share of 71 per cent as opposed to
Mitchell’s 68 per cent and brilliantly clinched 37 out of 48 points on it. The Japanese then capped the match by saving two out of three breakpoints he encountered and capitalising on three out of eight break chances.
Ranked 77th in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings, Soeda thundered into the Chinese courts and jumped to a 3-0 lead. He then hammered angled shots to swipe in remaining
serves, subsequently bagging the opener with a 6-3 win.
The Japanese veteran swayed from the winning track in the proceeding set and suffered the first blow in the fourth game, eventually going 1-3 down. However, he made a fitting reply after that and not only snatched his break back
in the very next game but cashed in another break chance in the eleventh game, winning the set with a 7-5 score line.
Soeda will square off against the Slovakian contender, Kamil Capkovic, who stunned the fifth seed, Amir Weintraub, with a bagel to set-up this clash. The Slovak lost his serve once but barely sweated to pull out the victory with
a 7-6(4), 6-0 score line.
Second seeded Tunisian, Malek Jaziri, will accompany Soeda in the last four. They fended off late resistance to outclass the sixth seed, Jimmy Wang, in almost two hours. Jaziri tremendously brushed off seven out of eight breakpoints
he came across and converted three out of six break opportunities to his advantage, consequently sealing the deal with a 6-2, 7-6(3) score line.
He will next face Ukraine’s Denys Molchanov who hit back to outrun the local star, Ze Zhang, in troublesome three sets.
