Go Soeda trounces Vishnu Vardhan in the opening round – 2012 Green World ATP Challenger
Top seeded Japanese, Go Soeda, tumbled over the Indian rising star, Vishnu Vardhan, in straight sets at the 2012 Green World ATP Challenger on Tuesday. He summed up a 6-4, 6-2 victory over the world number 337 to advance into the second round at this ATP
(Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place in Pingguo, China.
The highest ranked player of the tournament, Soeda, showed faultless performance to oust the Indian in 75 minutes. As a result, the Japanese assertively entered the round of 16 at this €42,500 Challenger Tour event.
Soeda high spiritedly entered the opening set and held his serve in the second game to tie the scores at 1-1. The Japanese displayed superb defensive skills as he brushed off all nine breakpoints he faced and held entire serves. On the other hand, Soeda
cashed in the lone break chance in the ninth game and pocketed the opener by winning six games to four.
The Japanese booming star kept momentum rolling into the following set and got the desiderated break in the opening game, eventually leaping to a 2-0 lead. He then warded off all three break chances to slide in entire serves. Soeda cashed in his second break
opportunity in the fifth game and clinched the set with a 6-2 score line.
All in all, Soeda manipulated a slightly lower first serve share of 68 per cent as opposed to the Indian’s 70 per cent and acceptably marked 35 out of 51 points on it. He also fired five ferocious aces and capped the match with 68 points.
Next in queue for the defending champion is Australia’s Samuel Groth who slew the Italian contender, Enrico Becuzzi, with a bagel to set-up this battle. The Aussie held his entire serves without facing any hindrance and cashed in all five break opportunities
to seal the deal with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in 42 minutes.
The second seed, Malek Jaziri of Tunisia, also earned the spotlight later that. He took one hour and 39 minutes to dump the local wild card entrant, Yu Chang, in straight sets to secure a place in the round of 16.
Jaziri lost his serve once but converted four out of 14 break chances, consequently winning the match with a 6-4, 6-2 score line. He produced a lower first serve share but took full advantage of the several unforced errors and five double faults the Chinese
spilled.
