Go Transit - Lost Ticket, Fine: $110 each?!?!?!?

Ok so my girlfriend, my sister and myself were on our way home from a concert in Toronto tonight when we were asked to show our tickets, after 10 minutes of searching through my girlfriends purse (we had given them all to her for safe keeping) we could not find them, the transit officers then proceeded to argue with us telling us we couldnt have purchased the tickets cause we said we had purchased day passes from the bus and busses dont sell day passes (which they do) he continued to argue with us about this and then issued us each $110 ticket for not having out train tickets (that is almost 16 times the face value of a one way trip add the 3 tickets together and thats 45 trips!!!) Now I understand the fines had to be big enough to deter scammers but this is ridiculous! $330 for 3 lost transit tickets is excessive and heavily punishes innocent people for simply losing a ticket.

Is there anything we can do to fight this ticket?

  1. If you show them the tickets, you can get this dismissed.  If you lost them and can't find them, you're out of luck.

  2. Next time hold on to your own ticket. If you can not find the tickets your are basically out of luck.

  3. well in some cities day passes are only valid on the buses

    not rail

(like for example in Los Angeles

Metro issues day passe for its buses and metro rail but those

day pass are not vaild on Metrolink

which a lot people confuse with Metro

so are your day passes vaild on the trains in your city?

  4. First of all, you need to find the tickets if possible! Then you can go to court, show the tickets that were purchased, and maybe get the fine reduced or thrown out! Without the"lost" tickets just pay the fine!
