Go (the game) questions?

Question

If you play Go, can you tell me ( a beginner) a bit about it and your background playing it? I'm curious and want to be a good player someday.

Also, when I play Go online, some people have K and D next to their names. Please explain what those mean, if you know.

my teacher at my college plays it, his part of an Go organisation in the uk

i was innocently playing chess and was ranked around 1868 in chess when he introduced me to Go. we played a game called *first capture go*( name pretty says what its about) and then he taught me territory.

we played for a few months and he put me into tournaments and events

im currently a 16k and have been playing for a year and a half. the K and Ds are ranks, where the smaller the rank is, the better...if i was 16k and someone was 14K,he would be a stronger player than me.and D are much more stronger than K

Go is a great game for those to follow their gut instincts since the game is mostly about remembering patterns and taking territory.

i also watched hikaru no go which is good inspiration about life for people who take Go seriously.

K stands for Kiu (kai-you) and D stands for Don

beginners usually rank from 30-20 Kiu, 19-1 Kiu, would be novice level, experts usually 1-9 Don.

The ranking helps when it comes to evenly matching players or to figure how much of a handicap to give someone.

Go, i did play it, because of hikaru no go.

k and d, wow, don't go into that, i am personally 1 d, means dan, but it is just a rank, like beginner and stuff,

k is lower than d

32k is the lowest i suppose

1 dan is the lowest among dans

and 9 dan is the highest

DON'T PLAY IT!!

you will get bored after 3 month, i promise!!!!
