http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Goa-c786 Cricket Association President declares to step down after being allegedly involved in forging his son’s birth certificate
Dayanand Narvekar, the President of Goa Cricket Association has been planning to step down from his post after a probe has been set to inquire his alleged involvement in forging his son’s birth certificate to let him participate in an U-15
tournament.
"I will put my resignation before general body (of GCA),” said Narvekar.
Shekhar Salkar, the former executive member of Goa Cricket Association had lodged a police complaint against the GCA President, his wife, son and two others claiming that all the five have forged thrice the birth certificate of Ganeshraj
(Narvekar’s son) to let him play for Goa in the Under-15 tournament. The complaint was filed last month on which the FIR (First Information Report) was registered by the police last week.
According to the complaint, Ganeshraj, after representing the South Zone Under-15 team in 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons was allowed to play for the side third time with a changed name.
The two birth certificates with contradicting DOBs, obtained under Right to Information Act, have also been attached with the complaint. As per records with Goa Cricket Association, the date of birth of Ganeshraj is 1st of September,
1993 while the birth certificate obtained from the local municipality, the boy was born on February 28, 1993.
The former GCA executive member, besides asking GCA President to step down from his post, has demanded Narvekar’s immediate detention claiming the charges levelled against him are of serious nature.
Narvekar, however, is adamant about his innocence claiming that he was unaware of the existence of Ganeshraj’s two birth certificates. He told the media reporters that his son was born on 28th of February, 1993 and was not aware
that his wife Sushma has had applied with Mapusa Municipal Council to register Ganeshraj’s birth at a different date.
Narvekar, who is also a former minister of Goa, feels that such actions against him are politically motivated and has demanded the BCCI and not the police to investigate the matter. The Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the past had
fined Narvekar’s son. Ganeshraj was fined for Rs 5,000 in the past as well after BCCI had taken notice of his participation in the under-15 category thrice with different names, including his pet’s name Anish.
