Goal Keepers that could be on their way to Arsenal
It is no secret that Arsenal’s weakest link is their goal keeper. Arsenal have not managed to have a reliable shot stopper for a couple of years now, even Arsene Wenger has admitted to this problem. However with so many keepers impressing during this year’s World Cup, Wenger now has a list of potential goal keepers to choose from.
Dutch goal keeper, Marten Stekelenburg was one of the main reasons Netherlands finished second in this year’s tournament. He provided a number of quality performances. He is currently employed at Ajax but would be a very competent number one at Arsenal. He possesses quick hands, reflexes and very impressive decision making.
Despite the fact that Nigeria had a terrible run at this year’s World Cup, which saw their President announcing that the team was prohibited from participating in any footballing events for the next two years, their goal keeper Vincent Enyeama was one of the best keepers at the tournament. The twenty seven year old had been consistent for club and country this past season and there is no reason to doubt his abilities.
The Uruguayans were easily the surprise packages at this year’s World Cup. Their goal keeper, Fernando Muslera was a vital part of that surprise package. He easily had one of the most fantastic tournaments, he even managed to save two penalties against Ghana. He is only twenty four years old, fast and good in the air, he would make a dramatic and immediate impact if snapped up by Arsenal. He is currently employed at Lazio who may ask for a reasonable amount of money for his transfer.
Germany enjoyed one of the most solid runs at the World Cup, they ended up finishing third. Surprise first choice goal keeper Manuel Neuer proved to be one of the most outstanding players on the young German side. He made save after save and made the opposition forwards feel like it was impossible to score past him.
He was equally as good in the air as he was on the ground, he posses lighting quick reflexes and good safe hands. He is currently playing at Shalke 04 but has been linked with the Gunners numerous times in the past. He is only twenty four years old and easily has another 15 years on his playing career left he could prove to be a very reliable and safe investment for Arsenal.
New Zealand were assumed to be the laughing stock at this year’s World Cup, however after the group stages everyone who had thought of making fun of the Kiwi’s were eating their words. The Kiwi’s were the only team to not suffer a single loss at the tournament.
Most of the credit goes to their keeper, Mark Paston, who practically stopped everything that was thrown at him. The keeper may seem like a bad choice considering he is thirty three years old, but he could be brought in to allow Fabianski out on a loan hence letting him develop.
