I went to a goalie camp today. The instructors all want me to change my stance, i tried it for the whole day but it is very uncomfortable and i can't play as well in that stance as i can in my normal one. I have played AA since atom (now in 2nd year bantam) so my stance can't be hurting my game too bad if i have played AA for 5 years can it?

  1. The best route is always to take the best of everything you have and have been given. Coaches are there to help, not to dictate and demand. Some of them are usually right, some are usually wrong, but most have a little of both. Obviously your stance is working well enough for you now, but you can ALWAYS improve. You are not the coaches' *****, and you by no means have to listen to everything they say, but you should definitely look deeply into what they are saying, and take out the parts you think could help you the most and apply them to your game.

  2. stick t owut you are yused to

  3. Listen to them.  Chances are that they know what they're talking about, and in the long-run this will be beneficial to you.  It may feel awkward and not work for you at first, but over time it'll most likely improve your game.

  4. i am also a 2nd year bantam goalie and unless you are at the university of wisconsin goalie camp, i would recommend doing what they say, but if you are at the bill howard camp by chance (tried it myself), do not listen to those guys, they have no idea what they are talking about, notice his great track record in college, but his terrible record for goalies in the nhl, his methods never work in the big leagues

  5. Yes it can.  It's possible to do well in spite of things, and if all the coaches say so your stance is one of them.  The correct stance will be uncomfortable at first much like butterfly was uncomfortable at first, leaving the net to play the puck was uncomfortable, and countless other things when you first started.  breaking bad habits is hard, but you will be a better player because of it if you follow your coaches' instructions.  Remember nothing in life worth having comes easy, and at the end of the day hockey/life is easy all you have to remember is; Work, Win.  Simple as that

  6. Yes it can in the long run. Do what your coaches say!
