Goalkeeper Petr Cech hails Jose Mourinho as best Chelsea manager, hopes Andre Villas-Boas succeeds
Chelsea first choice goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837 revealed he felt that the Blues had failed to find a manager to suit their needs after the departure of the Special One; Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager, like the many managers after him, left Stamford Bridge after failing to live up to the expectations of the Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich.
The Russian billionaire has made it a habit of sacking managers without giving them an actual chance to prove themselves. It takes Abramovich just a season, sometimes half a season, to decide whether or not he wants to continue on with a manager. This trend has seen the Blues go through seven managers in seven years, from 2004 to 2011.
The current boss Andre Villas-Boas takes over from Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti, who was sacked after his second season at the club. While the former AC Milan boss delivered the domestic double in his first season at the club, he was unable to provide silverware in his second season, which led to an early departure from the London club.
Cech expects Villas-Boas to be successful at Chelsea, but at the same time insisted he felt Mourinho was probably the best manager the Blues had ever had. The fact that Mourinho managed to hold on to his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 international.
Cech said while speaking to reporters:
“Six managers have been appointed since I joined and apart from Jose, who was here for 3½ seasons, nobody lasted long.
The philosophy at Chelsea is that they change the manager when they see there is no way to continue.
All the managers had their philosophies. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.
But Jose set the standard and they have all had to try to do better than him.”
Mourinho did indeed set the standard, and he has been doing so at every club he has been to since then. After parting ways with the Blues, the Portuguese manager took up the manager’s post at Serie A side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan. In a highly successful season he led them to the quadruple, including the coveted UEFA Champions League trophy.
He is currently managing La Liga giants Real Madrid, whom he led to the Copa del Rey last season after an 18 year long trophy drought. Mourinho was initially linked with a Chelsea return after Ancelotti was sacked, but the Madrid manager ruled out the move. This is why Villas-Boas was appointed, due to his constant comparisons and similarities to his fellow countryman.
Cech said he hoped Villas-Boas would be allowed to continue with the London side in the near future, something which would bring much needed stability to the club. Having played pre-season fixtures under the 33-year-old manager, Cech revealed he was satisfied with the progress his side had made under the new boss.
Cech continued:
“We have only been working together for a few weeks but everything has gone well.
He has his own ideas but at Chelsea we have always had a strong defence and built from that.”
The Blues have managed to not only win all their pre-season fixtures, but have also managed to maintain clean sheets during the process. After the trophy-less spell last campaign, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 will be hoping to come back stronger to challenge Manchester United for the English Premier League crown and to try their luck at the Champions League.
