Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov rues below mark first year as Philadelphia Flyers ousted in 2nd round
The Philadelphia Flyers landed a nine-year, $51 million deal to Ilya Bryzgalov to fill in the role of a first-class goaltender but the player’s performance during his first stint in front of the team’s net has apparently disappointed him and the team.
Even more rueful was the team’s second-round exit, yet another year.
Particular to note is the player’s inconsistent performance, as he had performed remarkably well at occasions but went lower than the mark at other times.
He was able to record 27 out of 30 saves against New Jersey Devils on Tuesday, May 08, 2012, but still was unable to fight off a couple of shots, which apparently had come due to the puck’s bad bounce.
Apparently, he is disappointed with the result of the last game as the Devils managed to win it, courtesy of the decisive goal from David Clarkson.
Bryzgalov said of the goal:
"I saw him [Clarkson] coming and I wanted to put the puck in the corner for Kimmo to start back up. The puck, I don't know, it hit him in the stick and go in the net. It's a bad bounce unfortunately because it could have gone anywhere - in the corner, higher,
lower. But it goes straight between the legs."
Otherwise, the player looked to be superb in his form, and even his teammates acknowledged the efforts he has put in the team’s victories.
Claude Giroux said of the player:
"He played well for us in this series. He was one of our best players. He made some big saves for us."
Apparently, none of the team officials have offered any comments with regard to the team’s performance.
It, however, was certainly surprising loss as Flyers had progressed through well into the Eastern Conference playoff semi-finals.
As a matter fact, all of his colleagues have backed him for a comeback next season, believing he has the capability of performing even better next season.
Although it is still a long way to go to next season, the player’s return to the team will be into the second year of his deal.
Irrespective to the player’s performance, it was yet another disappointing end to the Flyers’ run, as it was another second-round exit of the team.
