  1. they eat grass and weeds they can climb any fence

  2. "Goats require the same major production resources as other species of livestock. These include land, labor, capital and management. Goats often are grazed on forage land less suited for other livestock. They prefer browse, thus are not totally competitive with cattle and sheep for limited land resources. However, goats must convert forage into salable products to justify their presence in most multi-species operations. Since land is a costly resource in ranching operations, goats should recover their share of the costs."

  3. Goats are browsers, which means that they will eat most anything you let them.  Dairy goats provide milk which can be used for drinking, making cheese, and meat goats can be eaten.  Angora goats also provide hair to make cashmere.

Down side- they escape easily and will walk all over your cars, lol.

  4. The advantages:

They can keep weeds and grass short, they can be put with horses for company and to prevend sickness, they can be bred and sold, and they are really fun.

    The disadvantages:

They eat a lot, they can get out of a lot of fencing, climb on everything, and eat yard plants that aren't ment to be eaten.

  5. Goats are less vulnerable to dogs than sheep but more vulnerable than cattle.

Goats represent a small enough amount of meat that they can be consumed often without refrigeration, by small communities. This is comparable to sheep. But of course rabbit and chicken, turkey, are an even handier size.

The labor cost of  slaughtering tends to be higher for goat.

Goats have been known to kill their handlers, just as a ram, a bull, or any pig may.

Goats are often kept as milk animals, and well selected goats can be economical. However, one needs a higher price for goat milk to make a fair wage. For ones own family it can be a good choice.

Goats like sheep or cattle can over-pasture and so destroy the pasture that supports them.
