like we do. In your opinion, do you think it's okay with God? Honoring people like George Washington, Christopher Columbus, Martin Luther King is celebrating their birthdays. Not to mention how society feels about John F. Kennedy. :)

  1. Honor those who you feel deserve the honor, follow your heart

  2. 1 Peter 2:15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men 16 as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God. 17 Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

  3. Yes, we do not worship them

  4. God says to show honor to your parents. It means respect and obey. We should show honor to everyone,, but not worship or idolize

  5. "You shall have no other gods before Me" is the first commandment. It is okay to honor people but not to the extent that they take the place of God. Please note Romans 13:7 which states "Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor."

  6. Yes, the scriptures tell us so in I Peter.2:17. But I´m glad you brought up the topic of honor, because we as a whole in society, are ignorant to the difference between honor and respect. We are not to be a repsecter of persons, it is sin(James.2:1,8,9), because respect singles out one person above another as by status they are better, and worthy of a reverence, which is only to be given to God. Whereas honor is toward all, whether it be a person in high office, or the lowliest, honor is toward all equally. And in todays world, we hear the word respect used in place of the correct word, which is honor. You may ask, Do words matter; Yes they do, seeing that Christ tells us so, saying: “But I say to you, That every idle(ie: leisurely) word that people shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.”

    (Matthew.12:36,37)

  7. Honoring people - our parents and those in authority over us is a very Biblical concept and command. If we love God, then we will honor those He's placed in our lives. Remember Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for not honoring their parents. (Mk.7:10)

Honoring leaders / people in our nation's history who have stood up for righteousness is a good thing. However, we should never worship them and idolize them. This was a problem the Apostle Paul addressed in the Corinthian church when they started idolizing him and Apollos and others.

Idolizing leaders in society or in the church is something we should guard against. It's easy to get so excited about people who have charismatic personalities that we sometimes forget they are "earthen vessels" and have shortcomings just like the rest of us. It is a real turn off when people worship others and it doesn't please God.

But there is a place for honor in the Christian life. Jesus even honored His disciples when He washed their feet. And in that respect we need to honor one another because what we do to "the least of these" we do to Him.

  8. Yes, just don't worship them.

Rom 13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

  9. Yes, for example we are commanded to honour our parents. As long as we dont take honouring them to extremes though.

  10. nonsense. feel free to worship me whenever you feel like it is proper. I will understand.
