Well, it is beleived that the greek gods were first 'invented' because the ?elders, kings? couldn't explain why things happened so they just said "It is the gods will" or whatever. Not saying that I don't respect the Greek Gods. But, Maybe Jesus was invented for the same reason.

A lot of people have a psychological need to believe. They feel better if they think they have a place to go when they die, or they want to believe that they will be reunited with a loved one who has passed on.

Another reason may be due to tradition and upbringing. A lot of cultures have very deep roots in religion that can go back for millennia. In the USA, lots of traditions are passed down in childhood such as the easter bunny, or Santa Claus. They grow up and are told the truth and no one believes in them anymore. I think that no one challenges the idea of a god for fear of reprisal.

The more science reveals, the more peoples religious beliefs become disproven. There is a willful stupidity among religious persons to doubt solid facts for some reason. For instance, it is easy to prove that donkeys cannot speak due to a lack of vocal cords, but nutty religious people think that donkeys can talk because "God" made a miracle happen. No one can walk on water because the mass of a human body is greater than the covalent bonds of water molecules, but Jesus can do it because he is supernatural. It's simple science but flawed beliefs can warp the humans logical and rational ability somehow.

People used to believe in Zeus, Poseidon, Thor, Isis, and Saturnus. These religions have died off after time. I hope the same thing happens to modern religions.

Lastly, I think a lot of people believe in a "God" because it cannot be proven that a god doesn't exist. It is a conundrum and flawed logic to believe this, but people still do it. A flying spaghetti monster can't be proven or disproven either.

Clearly you believe in God otherwise you would not care. You cannot, in the English language, deny the existance of something that does not exist--it is a double negative. Simply imposible!

You could, of course deny the existance of God in another language, one that allows double negatives.

ok my question to you is..do you feels the air around you ..can u see it?

i quess not but then you knows that it is there..the same thing with God u cannot see him but then you know that something is doing what its suppose to do and can u breath without it ( air ) ?..what if God takes that away from u..then u die..the next question is what if GOD really do exist then what are u going to say to Him.are u willing to gamble it all....?

Because they want to which is alright with me.  My problem comes in when they try to force  or badger me into believing in and/or worshiping their IMO imaginary god.
