  1. Who said about universe in the bible? It was about the heavens an Earth so don't start arguing.(God also created the universe but it was not told the days

  2. God didn't make it... But I respect religious views.

  3. a day is about 24 hrs.

what?  you don't think God has the chops to do it in 6 days? (remember, he had to rest... poor thing)

if you start questioning things in the Bible... how long is a day?  where are the dinosaurs?  do snakes really talk?   you might as well just regard the whole book as quaint folklore and forget it.

  4.   One day was 1 billion years.

  6. If god really did make the universe in seven days then each 'day' was roughly 2 billion years long. According to the big bang theory, which I believe as their is overwhelming evidence, the universe is 13.7 billion years ago making each of the seven 'days' up until now roughly 2 billion years. This is assuming the creation process is ongoing...

  7. This is an interesting question because I always wanted to ask "young age creationists" the following:

If science today discover that time expansion was such as say, the first 12 billion years were as fast as one of our day, then the next one billions years as the next, then the next one thousand years as one, then the next year as the next day and ... the universe is not 13.7 billion years old but five days, counting in our own definition of time ... would they be willing to change the bible and write that the creation was in 5 days instead of 6? (The 7th day, god rested and it is not supposed to be a part of the creation).

In other words, how dogmatic are the young age creationists? To the very letter of the bible or can one day error be accepted?

... I know, I am good at answering a question with another one! :-)

  8. I don't believe in god but i do think that there is a higher power and about the seven day thing some how I think why would god tell us how long it toke him. I believe in the big bang theory to some dergee.

  9. In semetic Hebrew the word "day" is yom, meaning an indeterminable amount of time.

  10. In Genesis in the original Hebrew, the word "day" is not used. Instead, the writer uses the phrase "and time passed." So the concept of seven "days" was added in translation, and was not part of the original text.

  11. No. According to the Bible, God created, Earth, Heaven, and h**l in 6 days, and on the 7th day, he rested. I don't feel like digging out my old Bible to determine what he did on each day, but thats the basic story. Genesis 1:1 explains it.

But that story isn't true at all. I really don't care if you believe in God or not, but the Bible is completely wrong... just realize that. The Earth was formed over the course of millions of years, and is 4.5 billion years old, not 6000. Earth wasn't magically created, it was made from left over matter left by the sun's formation. They forgot to mention this in the Bible because Genesis was written in 1400 BC... it wasn't until 16th century AD that people actually discovered Earth was orbiting the sun, and not the other way around.

This isn't an "opinion", its a fact. It is a fact that Earth was formed due to leftover matter from the sun's creation. Earth and everything being formed in 6 days 6000 years ago is a fairy tale in the Bible.

  12. I believe as you do...the days (yom) could mean any fixed period of time.  Read that way, Genesis 1 is impressive--lower forms of life were created first, man last.

The problem (should you choose to accept it) is with the repetitive "the evening and the morning" language following each day.  I'm not sure how to reconcile it with "day" meaning epoch.

  13. Stop trying to rationalize the irrational. All religions are man's way of explaining what he does not understand and giving order to what seems unfathomable.

Think of all the religions that have come and gone we think are "silly" now, I'm sure when the Mayans were gutting people on their altars and the Egyptians were piling gold in their tombs they felt like their religion was "the one" and had lots of rational explanations

Accept what religions are and you don't need to ask questions like this.  Christianity is a blend of many prior faiths and gives hope to everyone of a reward for good behavior.  The bible is a wonderful storehouse of fables and teachings that can help guide or behaviors.

To accept the writings of man (which have been "translated" from Aramaic, to greek, to latin, to english) as the literal word is about as silly as believing that apollo really drives a fiery chariot across the sky and that is the sun, ancient people believed that as much as your 7 days

  14. The biblical notion that the world was created in 7 days is clearly meaningless. It was not until the fourth day, I believe, that the concept of the day held any meaning, as before that there was no earth and sun, on which the day is dependent for meaning. Those who say 24 hour days are fooling themselves, as that would be meaningless to a god that existed before time.
