God of War series nears 22-million units sold
Sony has announced a Collector’s Edition for the latest title in the immensely popular God of War series, priced at $79.99.
Easily one of Sony’s best series exclusive to the PlayStation brand, anything that has the words God of War typed across the cover is sure to sell in the millions. However, in an effort to encourage consumers into purchasing even more God of War titles and
help the series past the 22-million units sold figure, Sony has announced a limited Collector’s Edition for the upcoming prequel, God of War: Ascension.
Todd Papy, the game director, posted a statement on the Official PlayStation Blog. It read:
“We know you've been asking for the ultimate collectible, a Kratos statue, that will be the prized 8" centrepiece of this edition.”
The statue is sure to attract a number of diehard fans of the series to reserve themselves a copy of the limited edition. However, there was more than just an actual Kratos statue in the Collector’s Edition as Papy continued, “The CE is also jam-packed in
a premium steel book game case, with the official game soundtrack (digital version), a PS3 dynamic theme and PSN avatar pack, double XP points for multiplayer (more on that later), and a DLC pass to unlock all future DLC releases at no additional cost.”
At the same time, Papy revealed that the Collector’s Edition content would not end with the game’s release but that it would also unlock future downloadable content for the game as well. “The team is working hard on a dedicated post-launch multiplayer experience,
XP and DLC are going to be treasures you will want."
As for the series overall sales figures, one can understand why Sony decided to make another God of War title seeing how God of War 3 sold an incredible 5,197,632 units since its release with God of War and God of War 2 selling 4,617,347 and 4,244,529 units
respectively.
The God of War Collection, which was recently released on the PS3, also managed to break the million units sold mark as it sold nearly 2.5-million units.
