Sony has confirmed what Amazon.com leaked yesterday, and released a reveal trailer for the upcoming fourth instalment of the God of War franchise.
Sony Computer Entertainment may have been beaten to the punch by a rather excited Amazon.com as the latter announced God of War 4 a tad too soon for the former’s liking, yet in the end the news is out and everyone’s excited.
God of War 4 was perhaps one of the worst kept secrets in recent history, as although the ending to God of War 3 seemed final, one always figured there would be another game in the series.
Many speculated Kratos would be caught up in the underworld fighting his way back up again, though that had pretty much been done to death in the series so far. However, there was even talk of co-op, which may still be a possibility although it remains a long shot.
Yesterday, Amazon.com listed God of War: Ascension as a PlayStation 3 exclusive available for pre-order. The listing not only had the box-art for the game but also a trailer to go along with it. Sony was set to reveal the game on the same day, yet it seems Amazon.com’s eagerness got the better of them and the news broke out a few hours earlier than expected.
Sony followed up with their own official announcement and gave away a few more details in terms of what one could expect with the next, or rather the first, instalment of the game, as Ascension, in essence, is a prequel.
A statement read: “The most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far, God of War: Ascension takes us right back to where it all began.”
It continued, “Discover the origins of Kratos as he takes his first steps on a now legendary quest for freedom.”
The trailer explores the same theme as well as it mentions players will be able to experience what Kratos did before he was “bound in blood”.
Sony is also set to host a live God of War: Ascension stream on Monday, April 30 and this time around one can rest assured that Amazon.com won’t be there to spoil the not so surprising surprise.
