The latest offering from Sony Santa Monica Studio’s epic God of War series will introduce multiplayer action for up to eight players in two teams!
The God of War series has been around for many a generation ever since Scott Jaffe developed the original game for the PlayStation 2. The series has gone on to become one of Sony’s most iconic exclusives and is known for its ability to sell consoles whenever
it a new instalment is announced.
Many thought that the series ended with God of War 3, yet it turns out that Sony were not so comfortable with putting Kratos to bed and recently announced a prequel to the series, which would explore his roots.
However, in an effort to keep things fresh, Ascension will introduce multiplayer action to the game as revealed by the PlayStation Blog during a live stream.
"Playable by up to eight players, the game's multiplayer version lets two teams compete, domination style, against each other, but then must ultimately defeat a large God of War-worthy boss for victory."
The action will take place on with an interactive backdrop of sorts as players will see the environment change as the battle progresses. The live stream went on to show one of those levels in action as players took on a ginormous Cyclops.
"In the level shown, a gigantic one-eyed cyclops Polythemus pounded and railed over the multileveled map. The camera zoomed in on individual visceral battles.”
It seems that after beating one another the winning team earns the honour of taking down the Cyclops in the typical brutal fashion that the God of War series is known for.
"Eventually, the dominating team turns their attention to the Cyclops, attach some chains to restrain it and one leaps to put out its eye.”
The live stream went on to state, “The whole idea behind it is that we want to bring the big moments to multiplayer.”
Whether or not fans will warm to the idea is another story entirely but the mode does seem interesting and as long as the single-player campaign does not suffer, fans should not have issue with the player versus player component.
