Outspoken video game developer, David Jaffe, has narrowed down his list of potential projects to a shooter, with the game set to have a man holding a gun, yet it remains unclear as to whether it is a first-person or third-person shooter.
The God of War series has become one of Sony’s most recognisable franchises on the PlayStation consoles over the years, as has the vehicular combat game, Twisted Metal. Both games have reached iconic status with Sony recently confirming the prequel to the
GOW series with God of War: Ascension and Twisted Metal seeing the first game in the series hit current generation home consoles.
However, David Jaffe, has left the studio, Eat Sleep Play, which was behind the development of the reboot of the Twisted Metal games and is beginning work on his next project after his ‘maintenance contract’ with his former employers expires.
The developer has been in regular contact with fans via his twitter account in an impressive display of dedication to seeing his job through to the end.
Fans will be hoping to see the same level of dedication for Jaffe towards his next project, which at this point has been narrowed down to a shooter.
Jaffe admits that the shooter genre needs some refreshing and that he would like to bring that breath of fresh air if possible. “I love the (shooter) genre, but I feel it has been allowed to go a little—well, actually, quite a lot – stale when it comes to
moment to moment mechanics. I’m hoping to see that iterated on in the future.”
When asked more directly on whether or not he was working on a shooter, the developer first teased then crushed everyone’s hopes of a direct, straightforward answer.
“I have thought about it. I’m not telling you?”
When asked for any hint whatsoever, almost to the point of begging Jaffe, he replied, “There is a gun. And you hold it. And all the things that I can here and passionately discuss and preach to you are absolutely things that I’m thinking about doing if it
turns out the game we’re thinking about doing next gets made involves a gun and a person holding a gun.”
