David Jaffe is set to stay at Eat Sleep Play until the end of the ‘maintenance contract’ after which he will look to develop four different titles.
Many gamers may not be familiar with David Jaffe as much as they will be familiar with some of the titles the foul-mouthed, yet extremely talented developer has worked on.
Kratos from the God of War series probably got his rage from the developer and Twisted Metal, well it probably got the ‘Twisted’ from him too, as Jaffe was the creator of both projects.
The legendary developer is currently working on bringing Twisted Metal to the current generation of gaming platforms with the game scheduled for release on the PlayStation 3 later this year.
However, Jaffe has confirmed that he is set to leave Eat Sleep Play, which is the studio developing Twisted Metal, after his post release contract expires. He said:
“I will be with Eat Sleep Play until we finish what’s called the ‘maintenance contract’ we have and have been working on with Sony.” He continued, “That will allow us, post-launch, to stay and address issues that there’s no way we can know of.”
Jaffe elaborated as to what that entailed, “Cleaning things up in terms of balance, bugs, tuning, tweaks.” It was interesting that he did not mention any plans for downloadable content for the game.
As for what he planned on doing in the future, after the development of Twisted Metal, he said, “There’s four games I would love to do.” However, he did confess that development of those titles would depend on the team he would have and the budget that would
be allocated to him.
One of those games, it turns out, would be a survival horror game with a low-budget theme to it.
“There’s a survival-horror genre in there, a real low-budget survival horror, kinda guerrilla film making style. Not in terms of the look, but in terms of that kind of financing and that kind of production.”
It seems Jaffe is already looking ahead to life beyond Twisted Metal, though he did confess that he would love to return to the project one day in the not so immediate future.
