Godolphin: A paradise for international horses
Godolphin is a horseracing stable containing training and breeding facilities, located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is privately owned by the Maktoum Family. The stable holds worldwide fame for producing top class horses and winning a number of
iconic racing events across the globe.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, a descendant of a famous Arabian tribe, Bani Yas, put the foundation stone of Godolphin in 1992. Possessing great love and respect for horses, Rashid set up this facility with an aim to shift his favourite racing horses from the
cold weather of Europe to the warm atmosphere of the Emirates.
A graduate from the Cambridge University, Sheikh himself had been a gifted rider who won many races during his professional career. From the very childhood, he used to rear horses as it was an essential part of the culture of elite Arabian families. Interesting
to note is the fact that he used to share his breakfast with his beloved horse daily on his way to school.
It will not be wrong to say that Sheikh’s love for horses has evolved into Godolphin. After establishing the stable, he also inaugurated Dubai Horseracing World Cup in 1996.
The stable is named after The Godolphin Arabian, a brown desert horse who was foaled in Yemen in 1724. He was one of the three stallions whom all of the thoroughbred horses of these days come from.
Godolphin is regarded as proud of Dubai. It has played a key role in introducing the picturesque state of the UAE to the world.
Starting its operations with a handful of horses, the stable now contains a number of legendary racers. The managers of the facility bring horses from the autumnal cold of America and Europe for winter months and recruit them to participate in international
racing events. However, most of these horses only compete in the Dubai World Cup which is annually held from January to March.
Godolphin is honoured to have won the world’s richest race named as Group One US $10 million Dubai World Cup for five times. Apart from this, it has won at least 183 Grade One races so far in twelve different nations of the world including America, Singapore,
Japan, Hong Kong, Germany, Italy, France, Ireland, England, Dubai, Canada and Australia.
The Godolphin horses are trained by a number of professional and experienced coaches with Saeed bin Suroor and Mahmood Al Zarooni at the top. Through regular practice sessions, these trainers instill excellent running capabilities and sheer fighting spirit
among the horses.
Godolphin owns and operates four different training facilities in different parts of Dubai including Al Quoz Stables, Al Asifa Stables, Godolphin Stables and Moulton Paddocks. All these facilities are equipped with marvellous training amenities coupled with
professional coaches.
Being pioneer in this sphere, Godolphin has earned great name and fame worldwide. The horses it trains and breeds always accomplish astonishing successes in international racing competitions. The unique feature of Godolphin is diversity of the environment
which the trainee horses are proved with. The Godolphin horses deeply experience both cold and warm weathers which cast positive effects on their health and racing abilities.
In short, Godolphin is the crown of world’s horseracing arena. It is a source of inspiration for international horse racers and trainers. The way it has served the sport is really commendable.
