Godolphin Racing’s ten blue silks to race for Dubai World Cup Carnival’s sixth fixture
The Group 2 Al Rashidiya Stakes, sponsored by Dubai Duty Free are to be held on Thursday 26th January at the Meydan, and will serve as the feature race for the sixth fixture of the Dubai World Cup Carnival.
Godolphin racing is stepping into the competition with ten runners.
The Duty Free Foundation Handicap on Tapeta, that will be raced over seven furlongs, will have African Story, entered by Saeed bin Suroor, ridden by Frankie Dettori.
While Mahmood Al Zarooni trained, Time Prisoner will also be riding with Frankie Dettori onboard in the Dubai Duty Free Handicap.
Raced over nine furlongs is the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire Handicap for which Mahmood Al Zarooni trained Capponi will be riding with Frankie Dettori, and Nationalism will have Ahmed Ajtebi aboard.
The winner of the opening race of the Carnival, Sarrsar, under Saeed bin Suroor’s charge, will once again pair up with Mickael Barzalona.
African Story, now under the ownership of Godolphin with Saeed bin Suroor as his designated trainer on 13th January.
As the five-year-old chestnut gelding was being trained by A. Fabre before, but had not been able to accomplish anything extraordinary besides winning the Prix D’Ailly on 10th March, 2011, at Deauville, and being placed in four
of the races out of the five remaining starts for the previous season.
The Al Rashidiya Stakes will be African Story’s season debut.
The concluding race for the evening, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Handicap with the designated distance of ten furlongs will see Fallen Idol, and Quick Wit racing for Saeed bin Suroor while Rostrum, conditioned by Mahmood Al Zarooni, will
be guided through the ten furlongs distance by Mickael Barzalona.
The initial entries announced by the Godolphin Racing for the Group 2 Al Rashidya Stakes include Mahmood Al Zarooni trained City Style, and Sandagiyr from the stables of Saeed bin Suroor.
Sandagiyr will be tested by Godolphin Racing for the first time along with African Story.
How lucrative will this fixture turn out to be for the two Godolphin Racing trainers is yet be seen.
