Godolphin add Mickael Barzalona and Silvestre de Sousa as formally retained jockeys
It seems like jockey, Frankie Dettori, will not have a ride in the Investec Oaks on 1st June, 2012, at Epsom Race Course, instead, Mickael Barzalona will be riding on Kailani in the upcoming event.
Godolphin has decided to add two new jockeys, Mickael Barzalona and Silvestre de Sousa, and they will be riding in some of the biggest races.
The news was confirmed by Simon Crisford, racing manager of Godolphin, who explained the recruitment of the new jockeys, whose talent and skill cannot be doubted. To the press, he stated:
"Rides will be split across the board. They will all get equal opportunities. Frankie has to share the cake and he understands that.
"We brought in two new, young jockeys and it is obviously important to give them opportunities. For years Frankie was our only retained jockey. We had other people who would regularly ride for us but it was an informal arrangement. These two jockeys
are formally retained.”
Crisford stated that Frankie Dettori will not be retiring, as he still has a good number of years ahead of him and will continue to race for another five years.
Mickael Barzalona has an impeccable record and will be looking forward to add more victories to his incredible record.
The ride mounted, Pour Moi, in the Group 1 Investec Derby, which was held at Epsom on 4th June, 2011, and led him to a narrow victory.
The duo performed remarkably well and Mickael Barzalona guided him to victory a head before the A.P. O’Brien trained, Treasure Beach.
Mickael Barzalona landed the biggest victory of his career, when he led the Mahmood Al Zarooni trained, Monterosso, to a grand victory in the Group 1 Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline, which took place at Meydan on 31stMarch,
2012.
This victory did not go unnoticed as Godolphin decided to hire him as a retained jockey.
Jockey Silvestre De Sousa has gained significant attention over the years, and is immensely talented. He also had a ride in the Dubai World Cup, where he mounted the Saeed Bin Suroor trained, Mendip.
